Actually, look who holds power nowadays in the Congress. We are really unduly influenced by the really small liberal NE states who control disproportionate power in the senate with the likes of Senators like Leahy & Biden.

The only dangers I see is whether the separate states of Texas will continue a having common interests in the future as some may go their separate ways (such as the one around liberal central Texas).

New England is what we need to confront. They now have no Republicans at all in Congress with the ouster of Shays.

Having representation is the way the government runs, so having more of them and their voting power with our philosophy makes a lot of sense to me.

I have heard the argument before on whether we have retained the rights we had prior to the War between the North and South (Note: it was not a civil war like you said). There is no one I have ever met who has shown any legal documentation that this right was indeed taken away from this state. My father, who mastered in Texas history at Ut-Austin could not find such either.

Okay, you win, spend all your time, money and energy getting it done.

I'd rather spend my time towards getting two conservative Senators elected vs. the two representing us now but that's just me.

I expect both are foolish errands but I would give my option better odds.

Get together with Alaska.

Any military movement would have to involve either an amphibious landing, or getting rights from Canada to allow a military to pass through their country.

My grandmother is of Texan and Oklahoman descent.

Texas is in my blood. If Texas decides to secede, I’ll be there fighting for it.

Just kidding.

If a forty-ish single male were to move to Texas, where might be a location that is very red, great golf courses and a high female population?

I am a born and raised Texan and do tend to agree that we very may well be wise to secede while we still can. We are one of the few states that support and allow oil and gas exploration, we have a large petrochemical industrial base and we also have many acres of farm production. We could see our standard of living greatly diminished if the enviromentalist (global warming alarmists) penalize the very industries that make Texas prosperous.

The suburbs of Dallas tend to be strongly red, (Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Southlake, Plano) and there’s a plethora of golf courses in the area. I don’t know the m-f ratio, but I do know there’s plenty of places to look for them: one of the highest restaurants/clubs per capita in the country; gigantic churches; lots and lots of cultural activities, etc.

C’mon down...I hear they’re building the GWB Presidential library at SMU. :-D
