Pro-Life Advocates Urged to Renew Efforts Against Abortion After Election Loss
Life News ^ | 11/5/08 | Steven Ertelt

Posted on 11/05/2008 3:56:52 PM PST by wagglebee

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Several pro-life leaders are hoping the majority of Americans who take a pro-life position on abortion will re-charge and re-energize following Tuesday night's election defeats. They say the pro-life movement must prepare themselves to take on a pro-abortion president and renew educational efforts.

"We have long known that the work of advancing a culture of life is not a short-term project," Americans United for Life president Charmaine Yoest told LifeNews.com.

"Recall that William Wilberforce fought against the slave trade for 45 years before he ultimately prevailed in his defense of life," she said.

"In 2008, it is clear that, despite the challenges still remaining, the pro-life message is steadily gaining ground," Yoest contends. "Momentum in the states has enabled us to make significant gains in protecting women and unborn children. Young people today self-report as pro life at a higher rate than their parents' generation."

After the elections, Father Frank Pavone spoke of a "great mistake" but an "abiding hope."

"Americans have made a grave mistake in electing Barack Obama to the presidency," he said. "Yet America herself remains great and is not a mistake, which is why so many of her citizens will continue, with even greater energy and determination, to defend her founding principles."

Pavone urged the pro-life community to rally together to oppose the coming Obama administration's efforts to roll back pro-life laws.

"The pro-life movement has made significant gains in the courts and in the law in these last eight years. For the next four, the movement will work to prevent the erosion of that progress," he said.

Bradley Mattes, the director of Life Issues Institute, encouraged pro-life groups and advocates to focus on education with the reality that legislative goals of ending abortion are now stalled.

“With federal legislation no longer an option for a minimum of two years, pro-life education is absolutely central and critical to our future efforts of ending abortion," he told LifeNews.com.

"The key to countering this devastating political loss is to change the hearts and minds of Americans on abortion and related life issues. That can only be done through effective pro-life education," he added.

Troy Newman, the president of Operation Rescue said he thinks the pro-life movement will ultimately prevail.

"Yesterday's losses are just a speed bump on the road to victory for the innocent," he told LifeNews.com. "Overall, Americans are more pro-life than ever before. Election cycles tend to be cyclical, and we are confident that we will once again have our day."

"These setbacks will only energize us. The fight is on," Newman explained. "We will continue to work though every available legal means to stop abortion. The person occupying the White House will not diminish that work."

"Now is not the time for discouragement, but a time to roll up our sleeves and continue the fight, having peace knowing that the results in God's hands and, ultimately, victory is assured," he concluded.

Dr. Alveda King explains exactly how Obama harms her uncle's dream.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's Niece: Abortion Means Obama Doesn't Fulfill Dream

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. says Barack Obama doesn't fulfill her uncle's dream despite his election last week as president. Dr. Alveda King says Obama's pro-abortion position makes it so the civil rights struggle is not complete because unborn children are killed in abortion.

Alveda King told LifeNews.com on Tuesday that the civil rights struggle for unborn children continues and noted that abortion adversely affects the black community.

"The election of an African American president sends a powerful and historic message that what was previously unthinkable can become reality," King said.

"The battle for equal rights has reached a major milestone, but Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream of full equality remains just a dream as long as unborn children continue to be treated no better than property," she added...

Big Murder is now threatening even more death, this time against Father Frank Pavone.

Thread by me.

Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life Receives Post-Election Death Threat

WASHINGTON, November 11, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - I received the following message on my blog (http://www.priestsforlife.org/blog ) the day after the elections:

“IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR FATHER FRANK PAVONE

“I am predicting that there will be more anti-abortion terror because of this election. I AM ALSO PREDICTING THAT THIS TIME IT WILL BE ANSWERED IN KIND BY PRO-CHOICE COUNTERTERRORISTS, who will mount similar terrorist attacks against well-known right-to-lifers. FATHER FRANK will be a natural target for pro-choice counterterrorists.

“I therefore advise you, Fr Frank, if you read that there has been another abortion-clinic shooting or bombing, get out of town immediately. Take a vacation abroad. Go visit the Vatican. If there is another act of anti-abortion terror, your life will not be safe in the USA.

“Good luck.”

Some other pro-life leaders received a similar message, and it has been reported to law enforcement.

New York Subway Riders Respond to Ad and Share Post-Abortion Grief, Agony

New York City, NY (LifeNews.com) -- A subway advertising campaign in New York City reaching out to men and women who suffer from abortions or experienced the pain of an abortion through a loved one is yielding results. The woman behind the campaign said thousands have responded with their own post-abortion grief and agony.

The campaign relies on the tag line "abortion changes you" and the ads have been seen by hundreds of thousands of New York subway riders during the past month.

To date, more than 1,400 New Yorkers have responded by visiting the Abortion Changes You web site.

Remember how he said he wouldn't want his daughter "burdened" by a baby?

No, I don't.

;'{

I remember how he said he wouldn't want his daughter PUNISHED with a baby.

To see raising a child as a "burden" is rational, if misguided.

To see raising a child as a "punishment" is flat evil.

When Terri Schindler Schiavo was killed in March of 2005, I can’t think of anyone from the Vigil who didn’t say the country as we knew it was over. Look at it now. It’s even worse than anyone had ever imagined. We must be thankful for small victories while turmoil is the new normal.

I stand well-corrected.

Thank you for putting it accurately and in the proper context.

There IS a big difference between “burden” and “punish.” And seeing one of God’s greatest gifts (even if the gift is unplanned and not in the best of circumstances) as a punishment to be killed is barbarous.

March of Dimes Gives US a "D" on Premature Birth, Ignores Abortion Link

Washington, DC -- The March of Dimes released a report on Wednesday chiding the U.S. for failing to improve premature birth numbers and giving the country a "D" for its performance. However the charity's report includes no mention of the link between premature birth and an easily avoidable risk factor: abortion...

Jill Stanek: Moving On After Barack Obama, How a Disabled Boy Restored My Pro-Life Fire

It was the Sunday after the election, and everywhere I looked I could only see impending doom.

There is no way God would have allowed Barack Obama to become president were He not finally turning America over to judgment, to whatever great or lesser extent that will be.

I sat in my mother's church and was surprised to feel anger when the worship leader smiled and sang the same songs as ever, as if life hadn't drastically changed the week before, as if the Church itself wasn't indicted by Obama's election.

Then my eye caught a teen with Down syndrome coming late to service with his mother, sitting down the row from me.

Abortion and Euthanasia Bringing about the Demise of Catholic Health Care: Catholic Obstetrician

ROME, November 12, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Believing Catholics are being pushed out of the medical professions, especially in areas like obstetrics, by the insistence of secularised medical services on “abortion rights,” contraception and, now, increasingly physician-assisted euthanasia, claims a prominent Catholic obstetrician.

Dr. Walley, a Catholic obstetrician, emeritus Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Memorial University of Newfoundland and founder of Matercare International, made these remarks during an interview with LifeSiteNews at the 5th conference of Catholic Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in Rome. “There’s a crisis in obstetrics,” said Walley. “People don’t want to go into it. When I started in obstetrics, it was what you might call a glamour specialty, all about delivering babies. Now, with everything being based on abortion and birth control, you’re in a position where people are saying ‘I don’t want to be involved in doing the abortions.”

The physician also drew a parallel between the development of abortion in obstetrics and the ongoing push around the world for medically assisted euthanasia. “You will get doctors who pull out of their specialties because they don’t want to get involved in euthanasia.”

“We might be looking at the demise of any Catholic involvement in health care.”

The Vatican is calling dehydration and starvation exactly what it is -- MURDER.

Removal of Food and Hydration from Italian Woman “Monstrous and Inhuman Murder”: Vatican Prelate

ROME, November 12, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A high-level Vatican official has warned an Italian court that to allow the removal of Eluana Englaro’s feeding tube is a “monstrous and inhuman murder.”

Englaro, 36, was severely injured in a 1992 car accident that left her in a state of minimal consciousness. She can, however, breathe on her own and is not on a ventilator; her “life support” has consisted of assisted feeding and hydration. Her father, Beppino Englaro, has been petitioning courts to remove his daughter's assisted nutrition and hydration since 1999.

The Court of Cassation in Rome, Italy’s highest appeals court, was advised yesterday by Prosecutor-General (PG) Domenico Iannelli, to “allow Eluana to die” by the removal of her food and hydration.

Javier Cardinal Lozano Barragan, however, president of the Pontifical Council for Health, told media today that the push to remove Eluana’s food and hydration was “a monstrosity.”

“To deprive her of water and food means to kill her. It is inhuman,” he said.

Food and water does not belong in the category of therapy, Barragan said. “In any case, to suspend hydration and nutrition in a patient in a ‘vegetative state’ worsens his condition, and the terrible death by hunger and thirst is a monstrous and inhuman murder.”

In July, a lower court ruled that Eluana could be dehydrated to death, but the state appealed. Yesterday the court deferred its decision. The President of the Court, Vincenzo Carbone, said the decision “will be announced as soon as possible, given the particularities of the case.”

"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."

As with Terri, we must pray that Eluana's father changes his mind, but the culture of death grows more barbaric every day.

Terri Schiavo's Family Condemns Ruling Allowing Killing of Eluana Englaro

Rome, Italy (LifeNews.com) -- The brother of Terri Schiavo is condemning the decision handed down today by an Italian court allowing Eluana Englaro's father to starve her to death. Englaro went into a coma after an accident and her father wants to remove her feeding tube and starve and dehydrate her to death.

The painful death will be similar to the 13 days without food and water that Schiavo endured before her death.

Terri's brother, Bobby Schindler, told LifeNews.com that he thinks the court should not have allowed the Englaro's father to remove her basic care.

"Today’s ruling will clear the way for Eluana to experience a barbaric and inhumane death by starvation and dehydration," he said.

Schindler is worried that the kind of horrible bioethics that prompted courts in the United States to allow his sister's former husband to kill her is making its way across the globe.

“This court's ruling seems to indicate that American ‘medical ethics’ are spreading like a virus among the international community, threatening countless numbers of elderly, ailing and disabled persons in an increasing and alarming way,” Schindler noted.

"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."

Catholic bishops will fight Obama on abortion

BALTIMORE (AP) - The nation's Roman Catholic bishops vowed Tuesday to forcefully confront the Obama administration over its support for abortion rights, saying the church and religious freedom could be under attack in the new presidential administration. In an impassioned discussion on Catholics in public life, several bishops said they would accept no compromise on abortion policy. Many condemned Catholics who had argued it was morally acceptable to back President-elect Obama because he pledged to reduce abortion rates. And several prelates promised to call out Catholic policy makers on their failures to follow church teaching. Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton, Pa., singled out Vice President-elect Biden, a Catholic, Scranton native who supports abortion rights. "I cannot have a vice president-elect coming to Scranton to say he's learned his values there when those values are utterly against the teachings of the Catholic Church," Martino said. The Obama-Biden press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment...
