Obama wants forced labor for school children
Office of the President-Elect ^ | 11-05-08 | Office of the President-Elect

America Serves

"When you choose to serve -- whether it's your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood -- you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That's why it's called the American dream."

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

I am a life long Reagan Conservative, and even I can see the merit to this...

Oh yeah, I'm sure Reagan would be enthralled by your enthusiasm for total Marxism. Are you freaking kidding me?

http://www.marxists.org/archive/mattick-paul/1939/marginal.htm

“As a general rule,” Trotsky has said [6], “man strives to avoid labor. The problem before the social organization is just to bring ‘laziness’ within a definite framework, to discipline it, and to pull mankind together ... The only way to attract the labor power necessary for our economic problems is to introduce compulsory labor service ... We can have no way to Socialism except by the authoritative regulation of the economic forces and resources of the country, and the centralized distribution of labor power in harmony with the general State plan. The Labor State considers itself empowered to send every worker to the place where his work is necessary. And not one serious Socialist will begin to deny to the Labor State the right to lay its hand upon the worker who refuses to execute his labor duty.”

The forum is infested with trolls now.

Sub - I think you're right.

Trust me, homeschoolers and private schools are on the executioner list. Not controllable enough.

Darn. That's one consequence of Obama, Reid, and Pelosi that I hadn't thought of yet!

They already do that in California.

Must only be in certain parts of it. We've lived in several different cities and not one school has even mentioned 'manadatory volunteering'.

Can I assign my child’s 50 hours to help the Minuteman Project and American Border Patrol keep illegals out?

LOL! I love it!

“My son attends a Christian High School and has mandatory service hours to graduate. I don’t have a problem with this because we are sending him to the school for the values.”

I forgot. which Values are learned by mandatory community service ?

Oh, brother...this is a terrible idea.

If you want your child involved in a community service, then you should organize it yourself and make it a personal effort.

The State should not be mandating charity. Ridiculous.

Organizing the services is going to cost more money. And transporting the kids to their place of service will be extra time and money spent that the kid should be using to get educated.

It's a nightmare.

O.K, let me see if I understand this plan-— These children in Jr High/ High School are “required” to complete 50 hours of MANDATED community service each year? ( Has anyone out there ever tried to get a child of this age group to clean their room?—) Also, who is going to monitor this activity? The public schools? The government? Who? and what about
Home schoolers who aren't regulated by the state or government? Or is this just a quiet ploy to ax out home schooling completely? More Government- Less Freedom? I'm really confused about this “proposal” as well as concerned for my home schoolers - My children do more “community services” on a weekly basis already to teach them the morals that this newly elected dictator is trying to instill- Are these concerns because he was never taught them? I'm not sure- but one thing is for sure - or education system is already overloaded and overwhelmed why add more stress? Our drop out rate is already at a national high- why add to the numbers? Last but not least whose going to FUND this idea? ( as if we don't have a clue)and what about if the children decide to use their GOD given talent of thinking and decide Not to comply- who then takes the”wrap” -The Parents? Too many holes and I'm not a fan of swiss cheese!!!!

Want your diploma? Want to advance a grade? Sorry, you haven't completed your mandatory community service requirment. Those jobs prisoners used to do...

::blink:: ::blink:: ::blink::

This idea was good enough for McCain to propose in 2001, before Obama proposed it. I have been repeatedly assured that McCain is a conservative. Was that somehow not the case?

How is it wrong when Obama proposes national service, but right when our presidential candidate did it?

Putting the "National" in National Service "AmeriCorps works. In the wake of Sept. 11, it is time to make the national service program bigger"(^), by Senator John McCain.

It looks like McCain wanted to make it mandatory, too:

FTA: If we are to have a resurgence of patriotic service in this country, then programs like AmeriCorps must be expanded and changed in ways that inspire the nation. There should be more focus on meeting national goals and on making short-term service, both civilian and military, a rite of passage for young Americans.

It seems to me that the time to complain about this was before we ran a candidate who espoused the same beliefs.

“My Grandfather kinda dragged me kicking and screaming into the idea, but once it took, I kind of liked it. “

Wow. I’m stunned. those are some really nice things you’ve done. but thinking that the government requiring it is a good thing. . . well. . . wow.

You’re right, you are totally right...

Kids are not lazy and parents are not lazy.
Kids are not self-centered, parents are not self-centered.
Kids are not overweight, parents are not overweight.
Kids play real instruments instead of fake ones.
Kids engage in social activity over online simulation.

It is sad read that you think 1 hour of community service week, as part of high school graduation credit is socialism.

Clearly you were NEVER a boyscout.

“So....you’re a troll if someone doesn’t agree with you?

I think community service is good for our youth. If you don’t require them to do it, they won’t. Besides, it will build their self esteem.”

how about if TWO people don’t agree with you.

TROLL !

I know of a few kids in Michigan that are required to do forced volunteer services.

I told my sister about Obama’s plans and she was all for it until I told her she would have to do it when she turns 55, then she said hell no.

Hey mountainbunny.

I'll complain about it now. If you don't like it then you can hop-off that mountain you are on.

Okay?

Thanks.

“In many areas, the even numbers run down one side of the street, and the odd numbers are across the street. My house number is 1220, and the house immediately to the left is 1222. 1221 is across the street.”

Clearly an evil neighborhood.

“This is one of those things I’d be hell pressed to say was a bad idea.”

I agree. How many families out there teach their children to help others or the less fortunate? How many teach them just to help THEMSELVES?? Many are taught to look for handouts from the government?

I think these lazy arses who voted for him and who are expecting freebees might be surprised that might have to work for what they get.
