Democrats Set Sights On Texas (Latinos=Blue State?)
The Los Angeles Times ^ | November 9, 2008 | Peter Wallsten

Posted on 11/09/2008 6:33:33 AM PST by truthkeeper

As they review the results of Tuesday's election victories and begin looking toward future campaigns, some Democrats have settled on a rallying cry: Texas is next.

It sounds improbable for the Republican bastion that produced President Bush and served as an early laboratory for Karl Rove's hard-nosed tactics. But Texas is one of several reliably red states that are now in Democrats' sights as party strategists begin to analyze a victorious 2008 campaign that they believe showed the contours of a new movement that could grow and prove long-lasting.

A multiethnic bloc of Latinos, blacks, young people and suburban whites helped to broaden the party's reach Tuesday well beyond its traditional base in the Northeast and the West Coast -- carrying Barack Obama into the White House and expanding the party's majorities in Congress...

Are we beginning to GET THE PICTURE?

Conservatives are fighting a rear-guard action. The demographics of the country are changing rapidly, and those that are coming in - legally or illegally - will be voting for the party that delivers the most free goodies. Do you think they are concerned about the freedoms our forefathers created and fought for?

I’m sorry to be so negative, but when this country can ignore EVERYTHING that is right and good and elect a man like Obama....well, it’s got to tell you something.

In the next four years, so much will be done to increase the “progressive” majority, that I really see no reason for much hope. Not only will they increase the sheer numbers of those dependent on Democrats through amnesty or other means, they will begin to clamp down on the conservative voices in America. There are simply not enough R’s with a spine or blue dog D’s to stop this.

Really, who comes here anymore and votes Republican? They don’t come to pursue the American dream, they come for the handouts. We wail and gnash our teeth at the deterioration of American exceptionalism - they welcome it.

Alaska is looking better all the time.

The great thing about Alaska is they take money from the OIL Companies and give it to you just for living there.

It may be socialist/communist (not sure which), but hey, its a great scam.

Colorado used to be reliably red too.

So was Orange County, California. Wherever the illegal invasion takes hold, the area turns blue. However much some people don't want to believe that, and insist that Latinos are "Catholics, with family values" who will vote Republican, it just won't happen. How much evidence do we need before we see the truth? County after county, state after state, is turning blue, and it's largely because of immigration, legal and illegal, and the offspring of immigrants. We're never going to be able to do anything about it until we at least face reality.

What are you smoking? You think Mexicans are escaping socialism? Like they yearn to breathe free and all that? They like socialism and expect socialism. They will vote to institute socialism here.

The reason they come here is THE MONEY. Mexico’s socialism isn’t as good as our (former) capitalism is. There’s still some money here to “spread around”.

Excellent points. I truly believe we need to get more involved with these groups without pandering. Conservative values will win out, but we cannot keep relying on people “getting it”. We have to work harder to communicate.

I’ve spoken to a number of hard-working Latinos, either Mexican or Columbian. One has become a citizen, another is anticipating becoming citizen. They are exposed to liberal bs, but when we talk, they are clearly conservative-minded. They believe in hard work, and their talent and ability taking them far. They shake their heads at the lazy people they see in their neighborhoods on the welfare dole. They go to church. Conservatives and Republicans are making a huge mistake in thinking these people want a Hugo Chavez or Castro as the U.S. leader. We should be clear—we are not against legal immigration. I’ve told them, that illegal immigration is bad for them, too. If they are up to $15 or $18 an hour, and an illegal comes along willing to do it for $6, that’s not beneficial to them. They completely agree. They also say there are NO jobs where they come from in Mexico. What I don’t understand is, why are our companies going to China to produce sofas, clothing and sneakers, when Mexico has all these hungry for work workers. Why? Instead of building a wall, build a freaking factory! These people also talk about rampant government corruption. They LIKE that America at least seems to have Laws! Don’t sound liberal or socialist to me! Save Texas! We need to go back to the red states lost in the election and talk to the Spanish, Latin heritage group that does not want Socialism.

I don't think they have a chance in you know where..we love our freedom and guns here and they will be by our side the day these criminal Democrats try to take over our state..Gun sales have gone to 50% and also shooting ranges are crowed from what I hear..So Dem's think twice..

Agree totally. First step...we absolutely have to promote and elect leaders who can formulate and articulate our messages, have great presence and charisma, and are fast on their feet.

Personally, I've had enough bumblers, stumblers, hemmers, hawers, and "Can't we all just get along?" types to last a lifetime.
ENOUGH, already with these shmoes!

Does a state have to turn into a shithole before it turns blue or is it blue before it morphs into a shithole? It may be merely anecdotal but it seems to me that most so called Blue States are in very precarious condition, just like many of their cities. Fact is, Obama will turn us into a “Blue” country.

Somehow, I don’t see this happening.

Bet on it happening. California used to be Reagan Country. Reagan carried California in 1988. 20 years later this state is a one party ruled democrat lock. Secure the border or you are doomed.

Republicans and Conservatives are not reaching out to this group. I pass by an ESL class held in Mamaroneck, NY. The teacher is a no holds barred Communist! Her class mostly consists of Latinos, Japanese and random others. Apparently she teaches American “history” but it’s all bad! She takes these starry eyed newcomers and fills them with crap which makes them ripe for the liberals who are supposedly there to help them under the guise of “social justice.” We need to speak to these groups too. We have much more in common with them. Family is very important. Most have come here to work. They don’t like Castro and Chavez—at least the ones who actually came here to work.

Simply look at California. Used to be great state, conservative and a leader. Now it’s broke and a one party rule landslide blue state.
