In an op-ed in the Washington Post on Friday, U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, wrote that Republicans need to "rebuild our party by fighting for the principles of freedom, opportunity, security and individual liberty."
You think?
Boehner wrote that during an Obama presidency, Republicans will "stand firmly against policies that violate our principles." If only more Republicans had stood firm when their own leadership pushed policies that violated their principles, the party might be enjoying its eighth consecutive electoral victory instead of its second consecutive shellacking.
Also on Friday, Boehner's predecessor, former Majority Leader Dick Armey, wrote in the Wall Street Journal, "today there is a categorical difference between what Republicans stand for and the principles of individual freedom." Truer words have never been spoken.
Armey's conclusion: Returning the party to its principles "will require a new generation of leadership, the sooner the better."
Amen to that. The people make the party. For Republicans, it's time for people of principle and character to take this once grand party back.
The numbers are just staggering. It is insane for the Republican to keep John Boner as House GOP leader after these historic back-to-back losses. It is time to STOP THE INSANITY NOW! John Boner cannot lead the Republican party, and so long as he does, it will continue to drift in the wind.
Under Boner, the Republicans have lost the faith of the American people. No longer are they trusted as the party of smaller government, less spending, and high ethical standards. Neither the reality nor the perception will change until the old rudderless Republican leadership is replaced by a new generation of bold, limited government Conservatives.
The people like Boner who lead the GOP into the political wilderness are not the people to lead them out!
It is time for a new generation to take over. It is time for Mike Pence, Eric Cantor, Jeb Hensarling, and Paul Ryan to step up and take the GOP and the nation back on the right track.
We need new leaders. Plain and simple.
Then we must rise up and let our Representatives know with loud, clear voices.

Boner lost it when he backed the bailout and when it didn’t pass the first time, he said it was because Pelosi’s speech switched votes. That made republicans look like crybabies.
So do I. Governmnet less one Senator - Mr. Boner.

Boner is a Representative, not a Senator.
That aside, I concur with your sentiment.
Excellent post! No one whose state voted for Obama should be given a leadership post. Just making that rule would help keep GOP politicians on the straight and narrow and make them work a lot harder to please the conservatives in the party.

Well that would rule out Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, and for a while, it looked like Mike Pence too.
I neither like, nor trust this guy. I bet he’ll be right out in the forefront fighting for taxpayer funded welfare for the Detroit auto companies.
Boehner needs to go. He had his chance. Bring in Paul Ryan.
Indiana has swung in McCain’s favor. He now leads by 100,000 votes in the semi-official count.
The Drive-Bys haven’t bothered updating their election maps, though.
Former Majority Leader Dick Armey was such a great leader in 1993 opposition, he was such a hero.
