Recommended Gun List for Freepers (Vanity)

I would like to request that fellow Freepers help us non knowledgeable gun owners in recommending guns that we can buy before gun laws get changed. Many of us have only a basic semi automatic hand gun and have never given much thought to anything else.

However, before gun laws change I would like to complete my gun collection and even buy guns that I can leave to my children.

Maybe we can organize the recommendations as follows:

  Please list brands that are relatively easy to buy in the United States as most of us don't have access to that clever gunmaker in the Czech Republic or wherever
  
  Secondly, if you can list approximate pricing, that would be very helpful. Also, any pros and cons that you can think of will be very helpful
  
  Please note that my request is only for legal guns and do not post anything that violates existing law. Whatever, our feelings may be about existing law, I am sure that none of us wants to violate it
  
  Your contribution to this knowledge base is highly appreciated.

For a basic auto pistol you cannot beat the Ruger standard or target .22 For a high end I would go with a Sig Sauer P226. If you want a bigger caliber you could get a Springfield Armory or Kimber .45. I personally prefer one of the Colts made before around 1990.

For a basic revolver, a four or six inch barrel S&W K frame in .357 magnum. You could shoot .38 special in them too. For a high end revolver one of the Smith $ Wesson model 29 variants. I think 6 inches is about right for it.

For a basic shotgun, I would go for a Remington 870 pump or an 1187 auto. For a high end shotgun there is nothing wrong with any Browning over under be it superposed, Citori or one of the newer models. All of the shotguns should have interchageable chokes.

You forgot one of the most useful guns there is, the .22 rifle. The basic Ruger 1022 is not the best .22 rifle but it is perfect for a lot of uses and has so many accessories such a high capacity mags that it is almost a necessity.

I also think everyone should have a couple of high power European air rifles in 177 caliber. If it is really powerful it could be in 5mm or .22 . What ever you get stock up on ammo and accessories such as scopes spare mags etc.

I recommend an any variant of the AK-47, they are relatively cheap and extremely durable (avoid the Egyptian ones, they’re absolute crap). They’ll fire even if they’re full of gunk and grit, whereas the M-16 family starts malfuntioning the second it even starts to get a little bit dirty (sorry guys, but it’s true). Get at least a thousand rounds of ammo. Seems like a lot, but it goes quickly. As for pistols, I’d get a full-size 9mm, the Taurus knock-off of the Beretta is very affordable. (If you’re a M-16 lover, please don’t flame me for telling the truth, I’ll only spread it more if you do. Nice on the range, LOUSY for combat conditions)

There are a lot of forums that readily available. Just search the particular make and model you are interested in.

The forums seem to be on the up and up but here at FR is probably the best if you're concerned with credibility.

The posters that I have conversed with here seem to back up the opinions on Stoeger. Very affordable and very, very nice.

1. A S&W 915 or a used Glock 19 Beretta 92
2. A Colt .45, there are host of makers, all top quality
3. A S&W model 19 .357 or a Ruger Sp101 also in .357 hard to go wrong on the low end of the scale

7. If one is concerned about future bannings look into the AK-47 variants, or the Mini 14 or AR-15

8. I would look to spend money on ammunition for whatever firearm you choose to buy, consider 1,000 rounds a bare minimum, and more if you can afford it would be better.

Magazines that hold more then 10 rds will be a hot commodity and impossible to find, most firearms also have parts kits available for them, I’d recommend purchasing one or two.

And finally, if one is going to buy any firearm, find some good instructors, the local firing range typically runs classes for obtaining a concealed carry permit, I’d take the class whether you wanted a CCW or not, or the NRA also has firearms safety course as well as the local State Wildlife Commission.

At the end of the day though, more then likely they will gather dust in some gun cabinet, but it would be better to have some competence in using a firearm then to just purchase one just to purchase one..

This from a non-hunter, take a look at the Mossberg 500 Persuader.

It has a short barrel, and unlike the Remington and probably most others, the safety is in the natural place to quickly slide it to OFF.

For hunters who are used to the Remington and others that have the safety by the trigger guard it probably IS NOT in the natural place, and could cost that fraction of a second. For me, the non-hunter, it’s perfect and factored big on chosing it.

The release for the slide is also in a very natural place.

I keep a shell in the chamber so that I am ready to go, and don’t have to betray my position with the noisy chambering sound.

I won't mention the types of weapons I have but I know how to each and every one of them.

Mossberg 500 12Ga pump shotgun with Tactical Stock, barrel stabilizer with rail and mounted flashlight, holographic sights. Love it!

I have this also:

For the home - Winchester Model 1300 Defender 12 GA 2 3/4 / 3”. It’s a pump with an 18” barrel. I use 4shot ammo which tends to have a spread of about 8” at 20 feet with this setup. It was a gift but these are quite inexpensive and require little to no maintenance.

People! They just don't change. They're not "in trouble" until they're "in trouble". They should have been armed to the teeth back after 911. That's what most of us did. Even in the run up to this election, most of the better EBR producers were having trouble keeping up with production. Now, it's insane. They're flying off of shelves as fast as people can buy them up. But now everybody who isn't already "suitably armed" thinks they need to be. What for? If they were good with being unarmed (or under armed) up until now, what's the difference? What's the big deal? :-)

I tell you the truth though...people should ask themselves something before they purchase the weapons. They should decide NOW just how much trouble they're willing to go through to keep them. If there's a round-up, I just don't think there are that many out there that are going to give the local SRT a "run for its money" so to speak. So, if the nutless and gutless masses all rush out to purchase weaponry, what's the sense if they're just going to hand them over when "pressed"?

Assume that only semi-automatic firearms which can accept large-capacity magazines, and semi-automatic shotguns will be banned first.

Therefore, buy rifles such as AR-15s, AR-10s, Kalashnikovs and Saigas first. Buy pistols with large capacities. Buy lots of mags and ammo too.

It won't be long before Obama and Biden resurrect the "assault weapon" ban, and then the prices will skyrocket for "pre-ban" guns. Depending on how they write the law, it may be impossible to buy or own them then.

Buy now or never. Executive orders are coming soon. 72 days and counting. You can always get the other types of firearms later.

I’m still looking for a good CHL semiauto in 9mm that doesn’t cost a fortune. Small frame guy needs a small frame gun.

I recommend the Keltec 9MM; small frame. You can buy a kit to convert it to .40 cal.

Only jams I ever had with it were "nosedive" type, and replacing the clip fixed that.

Recommend Ruger, Smith and Wesson, or Taurus brand .357 mag revolver and it can shoot lower cost .38 cal bullets. Accompany it with a lever action Marlin carbine that also shoots .357 mag bullets (also can shoot .38 cal bullets). Both weapons are simple to load and shoot. No need to mess with detachable magazines.
