State GOP Eyes Rudy As Savior
nypost.com ^ | November 10, 2008 | Fredric U. Dicker

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a potential 2010 gubernatorial candidate, is being urged to take over the state GOP after a disastrous election that cost Republicans control of the Senate, insiders told The Post.

At the same time, current state GOP Chairman Joseph Mondello, the Nassau County leader widely criticized as ineffective and out-of-touch, is being encouraged to step aside, and is expected to do so by the end of the year, the insiders said.

Giuliani has been told that he has just a few weeks to fill a leadership void that could result in the party splintering into Long Island and upstate factions.

"I know Rudy is being urged to get in and take control of the party," said former state GOP Chairman William Powers, whose tenure during the 1990s saw the election of Giuliani and Gov. George Pataki, and the re-election of US Sen. Alfonse D'Amato.

"The party needs strong leadership, that's for sure," continued Powers, a Giuliani ally.

To the GOP:

This is a joke right? Don’t get me wrong, Rudys not the absolute worst we could do, (he has political experience)but do you not you want to win seats in 2010?

I say get back to strict coserv values, or be a party no more.

After Eliot Spitzer, Andrew Cuomo, David Patterson, Emperor Bloomberg and Sheldon Silver, New York needs a leader with a pair of balls. Rudy is the only candidate who can be effective. New Yorkers are fed up with the legislative branch.

He would still have pull for NY seats in both houses, that’s what I meant. If he’s the most conservative person in NY the state GOP could find for the job, I’m fine with that.

I’m sure they could run someone more conservative, but Rudy can also win and none of the other guys can. Pataki left the GOP in ruins in NY.

I’d rather see Rudy take out Schumer than run for Governor. That’s just because I plan on getting out of here and consider this place a complete lost cause. The people here have earned their malaise and should savor it for a while.

Under Bloomberg NYC is back to pre-Rudy conditions and growing worse... I don’t care if people here like him or not, the man knows how to clean up a mess, too bad Bloomie didn’t have the brains to follow his lead. The State of NY GOP would do a whole lot worse than utilize Rudy,

If they overturn term limits would Rudy be able to run again too?

That would be the sweet comeuppance this busybody vermin Bloomberg deserves.

As a Reagan - Palin Repblican I have to say Rudy was great
campaigning for Gov. Palin.

Remember Rudy for NY Gov. not Iowa Gov.

Here in Calif as in New York no conservative will win.
A moderate Republican is as good as you will get in large
states with large cities.

“Strict conservative values” won’t win you any elections in New York State. Absolutely guaranteed. A hard right value set will win you as many votes there as it will in downtown San Francisco.

That said, Rudy is probably the best person to at least try to rebuild some measure of Republican influence in NY state politics. Even under his tutelage, it will be a crapshoot. One might as well go next door in Vermont and have as much luck gaining more Republican seats.

Giuliani _might_ have a shot at the governorship in the next election, but even that will be tough going if his opponent is someone like Andrew Cuomo. Remember that Spitzer won with something like 70% of the vote.

Frankly, I don’t see Republicans gaining majorities in the NY state house again, ever.

“Filed under “1001 reasons the GOP is dead.””

If this were national, I’d agree....but I think he’d be a perfect fit for NY state and could really help us.

Putting a social conservative in control of NY’s RNC would be like running Ronald Reagan for Governor in today’s Vermont.

Thanks for your thoughts as well as the others.

Perhaps NY is lost. Juliani is the best hope to turn things around.

I’ve gotten criticized for my opinion, that’s ok.

I spent 2 week sprints of time there in the last several years - so I don’t know the politics.

I’ve been oficially shooled on NY politics.

Btw, I told my sister that lives on Long Is. not to move upstate, but to get out totally 2.5 years ago.

I don’t see the third party candidates winning state and national elections.

Especially since their views are much the same as the Democrats.
Amnesty, Global Warming, Anti War, 9/11 inside job, Legalize drugs, etc.

and your Keyes is wound so tight no normal person would hire him for any job.
Another one who hasn’t won an election and never will.

Your hero, Rudy Giuliani, thinks Margaret Sanger, the racist eugenicist mother of Planned Barrenhood, is a hero.

Actually, I find it fitting that the new faces of the GOP “leadership” are now a bunch of lying Leftist radicals like Giuliani, Romney, McCain and Schwarzenegger.

Y’all deserve one another.

Not nearly as flaming as our current President-Elect, and looking back, I think Rudy would have given us a fighting chance against Obama, certain moreso than with McLame.

Guiliani is far from a radical leftist! You’d compare him to someone like Obama? How is that exactly? On social issues you’d get little argument from me. But when it comes to crime and economics, Rudy is more conservative than most politicians out there.

Again, I am not promoting him for anything national....the thought makes me cringe....I just think he’d be a great start to kicking a state like NY back into the light.

Nobody else in NY is going to
