State GOP Eyes Rudy As Savior

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a potential 2010 gubernatorial candidate, is being urged to take over the state GOP after a disastrous election that cost Republicans control of the Senate, insiders told The Post.

At the same time, current state GOP Chairman Joseph Mondello, the Nassau County leader widely criticized as ineffective and out-of-touch, is being encouraged to step aside, and is expected to do so by the end of the year, the insiders said.

Giuliani has been told that he has just a few weeks to fill a leadership void that could result in the party splintering into Long Island and upstate factions.

"I know Rudy is being urged to get in and take control of the party," said former state GOP Chairman William Powers, whose tenure during the 1990s saw the election of Giuliani and Gov. George Pataki, and the re-election of US Sen. Alfonse D'Amato.

"The party needs strong leadership, that's for sure," continued Powers, a Giuliani ally.

If Alan Keyes had run, the GOP probably would have won.

Or, maybe not.

Vermont does have a Republican governor though.

“Filed under “1001 reasons the GOP is dead.””

If this were national, I’d agree....but I think he’d be a perfect fit for NY state and could really help us.

Putting a social conservative in control of NY’s RNC would be like running Ronald Reagan for Governor in today’s Vermont.

At least the party would still have a base.

Putting a social conservative in control of NY’s RNC would be like running Ronald Reagan for Governor in today’s Vermont.

So, you put a radical Leftist in control.

Brilliant strategy.

A Rudy run for mayor would be sweet irony.

...no conservative will win. A moderate Republican is as good as you will get...

The new motto of the Republican Party. Perfect.

That would almost fit on a bumper sticker...

Thanks for your thoughts as well as the others.

Perhaps NY is lost. Juliani is the best hope to turn things around.

I’ve gotten criticized for my opinion, that’s ok.

I spent 2 week sprints of time there in the last several years - so I don’t know the politics.

I’ve been oficially shooled on NY politics.

Btw, I told my sister that lives on Long Is. not to move upstate, but to get out totally 2.5 years ago.

You were right to tell her to get out. The weather sucks. Growth sucks. Taxes suck. It’s a waste of time.

I don’t see the third party candidates winning state and national elections.

Especially since their views are much the same as the Democrats.
Amnesty, Global Warming, Anti War, 9/11 inside job, Legalize drugs, etc.

and your Keyes is wound so tight no normal person would hire him for any job.
Another one who hasn’t won an election and never will.

That’s pretty funny, since your “leaders” are completely unwound.

Rudy Giuliani is a flaming Leftist, and this is the premiere conservative site on the web. You do realize that, right?

The third party wack jobs have flaming left wing views
as listed earlier.

Have been to several FReeper events that dozens of FReepers and JR have attended and have lurked on FR since ‘98 before joioning so have a clue what FR is.

Your hero, Rudy Giuliani, thinks Margaret Sanger, the racist eugenicist mother of Planned Barrenhood, is a hero.

Actually, I find it fitting that the new faces of the GOP “leadership” are now a bunch of lying Leftist radicals like Giuliani, Romney, McCain and Schwarzenegger.

Y’all deserve one another.

Rudy Giuliani is a flaming Leftist

Not nearly as flaming as our current President-Elect, and looking back, I think Rudy would have given us a fighting chance against Obama, certain moreso than with McLame.
