Some long-time committee heads are replaced in order to advance Obamas agenda.
*snip*
At issue is whether some senior Democrats viewed as out of line with the legislative agenda of a new president or otherwise unfit for the job get to keep their gavels.

On the House side, a leadership battle is shaping up on the Energy and Commerce committee between its chairman, 27-term Rep. John Dingell (D) of Michigan and 17-term Rep. Henry Waxman (D) of California, ......*snip*.
Mr. Dingells defense of the auto industry and opposition to broad climate change legislation in the past put him at odds with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and environmental groups at the base of the Democratic Party.

Please wake me up from this bad dream....it just keeps getting worse.
I don't know why this is even being debated. If the situation were reversed, and the Republicans held the majority and were deciding what to do about one of their committee chairs who'd gone out campaigning for Obama, everybody here would be screaming demands that he be expelled from the Senate, not merely stripped of his gavel.
If he makes some of the older members mad, it may be a good thing. I’m just afraid that he will threaten people that aren’t going to vote on his side of the issues in a bad way-kinda of like the mob. I think that’s very scary for people that are brave enough to oppose him.
Perhaps because, with the exception of the WOT (excuse me if that's a bad word now), Lieberman votes consistently with the Democratic majority?
I can dream can't I?
I mean, I knew the Democrats are disorganized and undisciplined, but letting somebody get away with campaigning for the other side's ticket is just pathetic.
27 terms? Did this guy enter the house right out of high school?

True if Lieberman was a Democrat... but he isn't. He won his election as an Independent...
No matter how you shuffle the deck we still have the same dicks!
hehehe...pass the popcorn!!!!
That just makes it all the stranger that they'd even consider letting him keep a committee chair. Man, if they're that spineless, the next few years won't be nearly as bad as they could have been....
I think the Dems still want Lieberman's votes... Joe practically votes with them on everything except Iraq...
