Waxman bully-boy lands plum job in Obama WH

The choice of Phil Schiliro , a longtime investigator for Representative Henry Waxman who will serve in the Obama administration as the head of the White house legislative affairs office, does not bode well for Obama's stated goal of "bi-partisan" government. Waxman has long used his Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the principal investigative committee in the House, to rail against Republicans and business... The chairman of that committee is the only person in Congress who has unilateral power to issue subpoenas without a committee vote... He is known for his brutal and relentless questioning style. Once he has ensnared his prey. he requires witnesses to testify under oath so that, if there's even a whiff of imperfect recollection, his staff - which features some of the most dogged and experienced operatives on Capitol Hill - is likely to sniff it out, exposing witnesses to perjury charges. His series of headline provoking "investigations" often lead nowhere... However, the committee has been a cudgel that has been applied routinely against a range of businesses... When he was in the minority on the committee, he rallied to Bill Clinton's defense during investigations connected to influence peddling. What has been the end result of Waxman's tribunals? Very little... The committee has been a politically useful means to humiliate Republicans, protect Democrats, and impugn businesses across America. Schiliro has been a very useful partisan pugilist... A reward for a job well-done. Since he knows how to protect Democrats from uncomfortable inquiries, presumably he will also help foil any attempts by Congressmen (read Republicans) to hold Barack Obama accountable for the actions of his administration.

Aren’t stories that Obummer’s administration choices “do not bode well for bipartisanship”... becoming a little bit like “dog bites man” stories?

We all know the democrat version of the perfect bipartisan republican.

John McCain.

Maybe Obummer will create a new Cabinet positon:

“Secretary Emeritus the Maverick of Bipartisanship” - for McCain. From which John can complete his legacy of attacking and abandoning republicans who vote like republicans and exhort republicans, “my friends”, to vote like democrats.

first mr. imanuel is appointed, who said that republicans can go f&^k themselves; now mr. waxman, who wields power with wide eyes, flared nostrils and a glowing, partisan, progressive, revolutionary hatred; and one should not forget mr. ayers who is the president elect’s not-close, close friend who visited his home many times.

absolutely amazing.

IMHO

The Demwits aren’t interested in bipartisanship. Neither are those who support them without fail. And no, McCain isn’t the perfect bipartisan Republican, nice try though.

Makes perfect sense to me. Since Waxman’s committee will no longer be conducting any investigations into government activities (no need, don’t ya know), they won’t require the services of an investigator. The administration, on the other hand, will be compelled to conduct unending investigations and persecutions of the criminals of the evil Bush Administration and people guilty of hate thoughts and hate speech.

My prediction is, Obama will be hard as nails behind the scenes (hence his hiring of thugs and enforcers) but continually making-nice in all his public statements. He’ll oppose any kind of tribunals for the foreseeable. He knows his victory was narrow and hollow, has made plenty of enemies within his own party, and wants to make more inroads in the midterm elections, which means not antagonizing those who didn’t vote for him.

...does not bode well for Obama's stated goal of "bi-partisan" government.

In an Obama WH only the janitors and wait staff will be republicans.

I for one have been wondering how California, a state known for beautiful people, ended up with a congressman like Henry Waxman.
