What effect did abortion positions have in the presidential election?
Vanity

Posted on 11/17/2008 6:03:54 AM PST by publius1

There have been a trillion words written about Palin, the McCain campaign suspension-bailout effort, and the slick professionalism of Obama's campaign, but I've seen almost nothing on whether pro-life or pro-abortion positions helped or hurt any of the candidates. Does anybody know? What did the exit polls say?

Based on what happened, it would seem that millions of “pro-lifers” are prolife in name only, not in voter action.

The Christian vote has me confused.

Cathlics who attend mass voted 2-1 for McCain
CINO’s voted for Obama’s social justice spiel
It seems very few Americans even know about FOCA
and even fewer seem to care
We are now a majority society of disposable everything including unwanted babies-

You might find your answer here and in the discussion that follows, it's at the top of the Editorial sidebar:

Social Conservatives as Scapegoats

I haven't read it, yet.

Maybe some pro-lifers value the Constitution that John McCain hates. Maybe some of them remember his effectively pro-abortion statements of the past.

Sucks to be a democracy when you're in the minority. We should have kept that whole "representative republic" thing instead.

Oh, and the secular government schools created young secularists. Go figure!

Didn’t have a biblical effect on part-time Catholics. They could’ve put McCain/Palin on top.

I know many here tried to get the word out about Obama’s position on abortion- but he managed to keep it low profile with many voters. I asked a Catholic Hispanic friend how she could have voted for Obama considering he is pro-choice and she said she didn’t know he was pro-choice “he never mentioned abortion” she told me. I know, she needed to educate herself- but people like this vote, so how do we reach them?

Obama managed to dodge for the most part two major issues during the campaign, abortion and gun control. Those of us that pay attention know where he stands on both of those issues, but many did not.

My pro-life sister voted for Obama. She believes he’s changed his views and just hasn’t come out publicly against abortion.

Some folks shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

God gave His people a clear choice in this election, mostly through the abortion issue, partially through the enslavement (socialism) issue.

The majority of America chose evil, and even some claiming to be His people chose evil.

Judgement time.

I brought up the BAIPA issue to a “pro-choicer” that said that anyone supporting infanticide was abhorrent,

yet she refused to believe that 0bama’s position was exactly that. Refused to look at evidence either.

When presented with the “57 states” comment, all she could say was “I wonder what he meant by that”.

Cathlics who attend mass voted 2-1 for McCain

Catholics that voted, went 54% for Obama. So, apparently most Catholics do not attend Mass.

Heard a Catholic deacon on Religion on the Line this Sunday morning.

He was excusing the Catholic vote for O.

Said that while abortion was important there were other social issues that were more important.

At that point I turned off the radio and didn’t bother to listen to what could be more important than saving innocent life.

“Among Catholic voters who attend Mass weekly, McCain won majority support: 54- 45%. Among those who do not attend weekly Mass, the margin for Obama was an overwhelming 61- 37%. Thus Obama drew his support from inactive Catholics. And unfortunately, most American Catholics are inactive.”
