Sounds like this virus has caused the DoD to closed down operations just short of that which a massive EMP burst would do.
DoD has not "closed down operations" or shut down their computer networks.
It's a colossal pain not to be able to use thumbdrives (because of the limitations of mailbox size) but it's not the end of world.

Well, in that vein, I think Joe Biden’s “test for Obama” may very well be Taiwan....

“They’d be better off banning the use of Windows.”
You said it. Linux or AIX would be my choices.
This attack sounds like a ChiComm operation.

That’s certainly true now, and it’s a good thing.
Out in the field things have been looser.

"This one probably $200 billion for Pentagon computers." At least they won't have missing the "B" and "S" letters on their keyboards.

The son of one of our friends is working in the Pentagon on just this problem! He said that there are attempts all the time.
I'm guessing it's the Chinese.

Mark my words, Biden said, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. .... Watch, were gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy, Biden assured. I dont know what the decision is going to be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it is going to happen.
Biden also made similar remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser the day before, ABC News reports.
Were going to face a major international challenge, Biden said. Theyre going to want to test him, just like they did young John Kennedy. Theyre going to want to test him. And theyre going to find out this guys got steel in his spine. Biden said.

I don’t have any personal knowledge of the nature of the origin of the problem, but the Wired Magazine Danger Room blog says it’s a worm from 2005.

For exactly this reason. It helps keep trojans and viruses out. I am amazed they are just now making this kind of rule.
To: Thunder90
The Pentagon would be best going with their own systems and OS software developed specifically for them.
Isn't enough money in the universe, much less the defense budget, for that.

Are you aware that millions of people have been running Windows for years with no ill effects? Its not exactly a secret. Here's a hint: the millions of zombies out there sending spam by the billions per day aren't Linux or Macs.
