Thursday, November 20, 2008 The Pentagon has suffered from a cyber attack so alarming that it has taken the unprecedented step of banning the use of external hardware devices, such as flash drives and DVD's, FOX News has learned.
The attack came in the form of a global virus or worm that is spreading rapidly throughout a number of military networks.

DoD has not "closed down operations" or shut down their computer networks.
It's a colossal pain not to be able to use thumbdrives (because of the limitations of mailbox size) but it's not the end of world.

That’s certainly true now, and it’s a good thing.
Out in the field things have been looser.

For exactly this reason. It helps keep trojans and viruses out. I am amazed they are just now making this kind of rule.
Isn't enough money in the universe, much less the defense budget, for that.
Here's a hint: the millions of zombies out there sending spam by the billions per day aren't Linux or Macs.
1) first the cyber attacks on the pentagon
2) then the cyber attacks on Wall street
3) then a targeted assassination attempt
4) then La Fin du Monde
BINGO! Security is ALL about cost vs risk management...You can always tell who the security armchair generals are....
