CHICAGO (Reuters) – U.S. President-elect Barack Obama is leaning toward selecting retired Gen. James Jones as White House national security adviser, ABC News reported on Thursday.

Jones is among several candidates under consideration for the job, which coordinates foreign policy throughout the administration.

James Steinberg, who was deputy national security adviser in Bill Clinton's administration, is also a candidate for the job.

The ABC report said Jones had emerged as the leading candidate for Obama, who is said to value his advice and likes the idea of hiring someone for the job with more than four decades of active military experience.

ABC also said that retired Adm. Dennis Blair was the top candidate to be the director of national intelligence.

“A quick scan of his bio reveals nothing too alarming. With Obama, I would have expected Calypso Louie as the NSA. At least he picked someone credible. Does anyone know anything about this man which makes him unacceptable?”

I believe he opposed the surge.

But IMO he’s about as good as you can get with Obama. He’s certainly preferable to Clark or McPeak, or someone like Samantha Power.

Considering the fact that the white nights were nothing more than suicide drills, panic would be a good thing.

I always associated "White Night" with the assassination of Milk and Moscone. Since I am going off on a tangent here, I will say that the White Night Riots inspired what is perhaps my all time favorite album cover.

Looking into William Walker sent me into reading up on John Norvell the namesake of the town I live in.

You might find the correspondence between Norvell and Thomas Jefferson about newspapers kind of interesting.

Well, can you blame The One? How can he pass up the opportunity to have the messianic, marxist kool-aide drinking Jim Jones be a part of his historic administration? It’s so, like, karmic.

Senator, if you’re in a Cabinet meeting, and the General yells, “Come to me, my babies! Let me quell your pain!”...be very afraid.
