5 on the outs in Cabinet shuffle (John Kerry "crushed" over Cabinet snub)
Politico ^

Posted on 11/22/2008 5:14:03 PM PST by Chet 99

One Democratic operative suggests keeping track of Barack Obama’s cabinet selections with a March Madness-type tournament chart. While no official announcements have been made, a controlled series of leaks have given a good sense of who's still in contention, and which big names have been bounced from the bracket.

The new administration still has some major posts to fill, including heads for the departments of Defense, Housing and Urban

Development, Transportation, Labor, and Energy, not to mention the Environmental Protection Agency. But a number of the biggest prizes seem to have already been won, and a handful of serious contenders already been passed over in the speed-dating game that is the Obama transition.

Here's a look at five major players and the jobs they have apparently not been given:

John Kerry, State—The Massachusetts Senator and former Democratic presidential nominee was a passionate, articulate and early supporter of Obama, a fixture on both conference calls and the Sunday talk show circuit. Kerry’s people say he never had any expectations of being named Secretary of State but other Democrats say he made no secret of his Foggy Bottom aspirations. “He’s crushed,” said one Senate aide. Kerry would have been a fine pick, sources say, but Obama apparently had his eye on Hillary Clinton since the early fall. He does get an impressive consolation prize: the chairmanship of the Foreign Relations Committee vacated by Joe Biden.

But what will obama do now that he won’t have the inside track to consult with General SHINSEKI????

Who the hell is general SHINSEKI? Was he the guy responsible for guarding the munitions at AL KAKKA?

Did anyone see Bill Kistrol this am on Fox blabbing about Hillary not being a bad choice? He said he reread her statements regarding Iraq and her support of Bush. He said she is far more hawkish then Obama. Pretty funny considering all my family supported the BIG O because they want an end to the war! This is all so hilarious I cannot stop laughing! What a fun next four years.

That’s what I think. My crystal ball tells me there is a future airplane crash scenario in the works and the top 4 just “happen” to be onboard.

Ah, yes, Mozambique!

And, yes I did confuse Côte d’Ivoire with Côte d’Azul.

Hey, but at least I got Sierra Leone right, não?

Actually, Sierra Leone was a British colony--from 1787 the town of Freetown was a haven for freed slaves, and about 1% of the population of the country is descended from such people. English is an official language there, along with a creole derived from English and indigenous languages.

Just to the north of Sierra Leone is Guinea (a former French colony) and on the other side of Guinea is Guinea-Bissau, a former Portuguese colony.

Sierra Leone has possibly the highest infant mortality rate in the world (slightly higher than Afghanistan and Liberia, and twice or three times the rate of some sub-Saharan African nations).

Hey, Teresa grew up in Maputo, Mozambique (when it was still a colony known as Portugese East Africa). It would be great to appoint HER the US Ambassador to Mozambique and let Jean Vichy Kerry tag along as the Ambassador’s spouse..... I know, I know, it could never happen, but I can dream.......

Yeah, I miss old John Kerry as a presidential possibility.

When I’m feeling a little down I like to head over to this site.

I’m surprised the DNC hasn’t had it taken down yet, but maybe they enjoy making fun of this pompous doof as much as conservatives do.
