I’ve always wondered why these guys always get caught with the stuff they didn’t deliver. Burn it, take it to the dump, whatever. But stacking it up in the garage just doesn’t make sense

Our mailman doesn’t deliver junk mail on Saturdays ever. I do wonder if he trashes it or just delivers it on Monday, but I really don’t care enough to ask.

Junk mail postage charges are too small to pay for the costs of handling and delivery, so first class mail charges get booted up to support the politically mandated subsidy to junk mailers.

“Lucifer’s Hammer.”
One of my all-time favorite books, and yes, Harry the Mailman did exactly this. (And also got into trouble.)

In the thirties I heard a radio talk “steam heat by mail” describing how to get on junk lists, and connecting a chute from mailbox to furnace.

According to his attorney, Padgett felt overwhelmed by the torrents of "direct advertising mail"
he was obligated to deliver
as he contended with heart problems and diabetes. Y'all give this poor victim a break, would'ya?
Crikey...

why not just take down your mailbox? There's no law requiring you to have one. Hmm... that's a damn good idea. I hate all mail, junk and first class. I can't remember the last time I received anything I actually wanted.

You going to trust a government employee to ONLY trash things you don’t want to read?

It's not capitalism when it depends on taxpayer-subsidized, Constitutionally-mandated services to survive.
Junk mail wouldn't survive if it weren't for the fact that the Government establishes and supports and funds and props up the USPS. I for one don't give a damn what the "clients" want. Stop using my f*****ng money to annoy me.

I didn't say I agreed with what he did, just pointing out that it was not first class mail. I get my mail out of the box and sort it next to the trash can. Most days I get more junk mail (and yes, I think junk mail is appropriate!) than I do anything of importance.
The US Postal Service is one of my pet peeves anyway.
To: Calm_Cool_and_Elected
I would never assume someone else knows what I do and don’t want to see, whether or not its first class mail.
To: SlapHappyPappy
He wasn’t accused of throwing away anything but junk mail.
To: fella; Gone_Postal
To heck with their discount everybody should pay the same rate,... Most junk mail goes to every house or apartment so there is no sorting; just put it in the box.
Junk mail with specific adddresses have bar codes so they are sorted electronically.
In reality, junk mail subsidizes regular mail and is more profitable than regular mail.
To: Blood of Tyrants
yes, and I have acknowledged that, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t and also doesnt mean he wouldn’t have eventually. There have been similar cases in the past and they started out with a bag of mail here or there.
If you want some government employee to decide what ads you can and can’t see that’s your business.

Please add me to your “Stop putting this unsolicited crap in MY mailbox” list. Thanks.
