Court orders Arizona to allow ‘Choose Life’ license plates

A federal court has ruled that the Arizona License Plate Commission must approve an anti-abortion group's "Choose Life" specialty license plate.

The Arizona Life Coalition applied for the specialty license plate in 2002, but the Arizona License Plate Commission, which oversees the requests, rejected its application.

Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) and the Center for Arizona Policy filed a suit in September of 2003.

I don't see where the problem is.There should be a plate saying "Choose Life" and, assuming there's a demand for it,a plate that reads "Choose Death".

Problem solved.Everyone's happy.

Actually...something just occurred to me.Here in the Gay State there are all sorts of plates.I'm calling the Department of Motor Vehicles tomorrow morning asking that they offer a plate that reads "Choose Life".At the same time I'm gonna submit a letter to the editor of the Boston Globe suggesting that there should be such a plate.

It should be *fun*!

One has got to love the idea that government is promoting personal freedom via life.

Even if one doesn't reside in AZ.

A conservative promoting one.

It is a proper ruling and, amazingly, from the 9th circus.

But this part kinda disturbed me:

“South Carolina, which offers a “Choose Life” plate, will soon start making “I Believe” license plates that feature a cross and stained glass window. Those plates are already the subject of a legal challenge by Jewish and Hindu groups.”

“Choose Life” is an important political point that, although supported by religion, doesn’t require religion. To start touting a specific religion on license plates crosses a line — or just opens a door for every known, and maybe some little-known — religion to insist on a plate of their own.

We’re working on having the plates here in Virginia, too. Proceeds benefit crisis pregnancy centers.

It's a win for conservatives. Many may call it semantics, but I think that we ought to drop the "anti-abortionist" language and pick up, once again, the term, "pro-life." And we have to continue to knock the public time and again with our firm belief in the sanctity of life.

Geeze...VA has recently turned solid blue.First that worthless filthbag Webb and now Hussein. Will something as reactionary and oppressive as a "choose life" plate fly there today?

A bill has been introduced into the State Senate, so we’ll see. Even if it passes, I doubt Tim Kaine (CINO Catholic) will sign it. Might have to wait until after next year when current Republican Attorney General Bob McDonnell is elected governor.

And that's the point. Force them to use language that supports "pro death."

I have never understood the problem with "Choose Life" license plates. For one thing, the phrase acknowledges that there is a "choice", so there's nothing overtly political there; no call to overturn Roe v Wade or anything.

The only plausible explanantion I can come up with is that the abortion industry fears a loss of some business. I guess the abortion profiteers figure some people may see a "Choose Life" license plate and second guess a decision to have an abortion. It's all about the money with those cretins. It's always about the money.

Ironic that those that love to call themselves “Pro-Choice”
are anti-choice when it comes to being “Pro-Life” or “Choose-Life”
