Alan Colmes to Depart Top Rated Hannity & Colmes
Breitbart.com ^ | 24 NOV 08 | dcbryan1

FOX News Channel’s (FNC) Alan Colmes will relinquish his role as co-host of Hannity & Colmes at the end of the year.

In announcing his decision, Colmes said, “I approached Bill Shine (FNC’s Senior Vice President of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network. Although it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”

Colmes will continue to have a presence on FNC as he will serve as a liberal commentator on a variety of FOX News programming, including Foxnews.com’s The Strategy Room and continue hosting his radio program, The Alan Colmes Show on FOX Talk, a division of FOX News Radio. He will also begin developing a weekend program.

Shine said, “We’re very sorry to see Alan reach this decision but we understand his desire to seek other creative challenges in his career. We value his incredible hard work in making Hannity & Colmes the most successful debate program on cable news and we’re going to miss him on the show. Thankfully, he will begin developing a weekend pilot for us.”

FOX News Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Roger Ailes added, “Alan is one of the key reasons why FOX News has been such a remarkable success. We’re sad to see him leave the program but we look forward to his ongoing contributions to the network.”

Hannity & Colmes is the only FNC program which has remained in the same timeslot for 12 years, catapulting to number one in 2003 and never relinquishing the top spot. The second highest-rated program in cable news behind only The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes averaged 3.3 million viewers nightly for the Nielsen month of October and is poised to mark 60 consecutive months at number one at the end of November.

Hannity added, “Not only has Alan been a remarkable co-host, he’s been a great friend which is rare in this industry — I’ll genuinely miss sparring with such a skillful debate partner.”

Throughout his 12 year tenure on Hannity & Colmes, Colmes has interviewed numerous key political figures, including: President Elect Barack Obama, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA), DNC Chairman Howard Dean and former Vice President Al Gore.

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour general news service covering breaking news as well as political, entertainment and business news. For nearly seven years, FNC has been the most watched cable news channel in the nation. Owned by News Corp., FNC is available in more than 90 million homes.

I remember watching H&C some years ago when H&C were interviewing one of those radical Nation of Islam guys (Farrakhan type). The guy they were interviewing told Sean he was a racist.

Alan said to the guy “Shame on you, shame on you for calling Sean Hannity a racist.” He was extremely mad at this guy; everyone who knows Sean and those who listen to him know he is not a racist. And there is nothing better than H&C when they get together and AGREE - like on eminent domain.

Sean had a great time interviewing Alan’s wife a couple weeks back on a book she wrote. She is Monica Crowley’s sister. It was a fun interview.

Its going to be Hannity and Powers.

At least she has original thoughts. Unlike Colmes, who can’t respond to any question without a DNC talking point, and who can’t respond to any problem with a Democrat without citing a Republican misdeed from any point since Lincoln’s assasination in 1865.

I used to like Colmes at first when our cable company finally got FNC in October of 1999. Now I always mute him as soon as he opens his mouth. Also, there is nothing more irritating to me when he pulls out his stupid notes, and makes his silly faces. To bad we have to wait until the end of the year though.

I agree with you on Kirsten Powers

***Foxnews.com’s The Strategy Room***

What I've heard in a brief channel switch of The Strategy Room was enough to wean my family off Fox News almost entirely. O'Reilly was the reason we signed up for satellite TV. Listening to him lately, 3/4 of his show is triva, entertainment and product promotion. Hitting the mute button on the remote has been overwhelming when circumventing viewing Colmes. We're ready to box up the dish and send it back.

Actually you have a good point. He could replace the Hannity and Colmes Show with his Hannity’s America.

LOL you sound just like my hubby... he has his TV and I have mine, but since I’ve turned mine OFF I actually feel better with myself, FOX and all news programs was frying my brain. I’m getting caught up with house chores, and even baking cookies, and taking walks in the country, so there is life after FOX....

I do still spend lots of time on my computer, but we live in the rural mountains of Pennsylvania and one needs some vices!!!

This guy would be more interesting and more intelligent than Alan Colmes.

Bring him in and prop him up next to Sean and I'd start watching again.

I'm betting that since Comrade Barry successfully stole the election, liberals who never thought they'd be in power in a million years are now staring directly into their own void of experience, knowledge, and wisdom, and preparing to run for denial cover as fast as their spindly little legs can carry them.

Colmes probably doesn't want to answer the stream of "What the hell is your nutcase messiah *doing*, Colmes?" questions that the next 4 years will inevitably bring.

I do still spend lots of time on my computer, but we live in the rural mountains of Pennsylvania and one needs some vices!!!

So since we live in the rural mountains of Arkansas, maybe if I get satellite internet or something faster than dial-up and get my wife hooked on FR, then maybe I can drop satellite TV and break the Fox News spell? As for house chores and baking cookies, I don't think there's anything I could bribe her with to make her want to do that! (Did I say that out loud?)

Yeup! I heard this on my drive home earlier. Good Riddance! This guy, with gang Obama, started the rumors about Governor Palin and trashed her and her family. I'll now watch Sean again.

Adios Homely!

He is a disgusting LIAR. Homely is the one who started the lies and rumors about Governor Palin and her family.

Good Riddance to bad rubbish.
