The GOPs crush on Sarah Palin
Says Gallup:
PRINCETON, NJ Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are most interested in seeing Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee run for the partys presidential nomination in 2012. Those three received the highest scores among the 10 possible candidates evaluated in a recent Gallup Panel survey.
According to the poll, 67 percent of Republicans would like to see Palin run four years from now, with 62 percent favorable toward a Romney run and 61 percent toward Huckabee.
And which potential candidates would the party faithful least like to see on the ballot? The least popular by far was Jeb Bush 61 percent said they would NOT want to see him run, a pretty strong indication of how badly burned the party feels by all things Bush. The second least popular was Newt Gingrich 48 percent would not like to see him run.
But I have to confess: I am absolutely baffled by the continued GOP support for Palin. My best guess is that those who support her have a very different concept of the presidency than I do. I see the president as someone who actually has to run the country, so I value traits such as competence and knowledge. They see the presidency in more symbolic terms, which means they value those candidates who epitomize America as they wish to see it.
I acknowledge that those are not mutually exclusive categories, that every candidate represents a mixture of pragmatism and symbolism. Its just a question of which is more important to you as a voter, and to my mind Palin backers have by definition stated that competence and knowledge are less important to them.

“Doesn’t anybody know how our government works anymore?”

I’ll bet he taps toes in the mens urinal.

The President does not run the country. The country runs itself. The President is in charge of the Executive Branch of the US Government. But, let's be frank, that pretty much runs itself, as well. Unless you want somebody running your life, you should be wary of a President running the country.
I got 100 bucks that says this guy voted for Duh One.
Nothing personal against Jeb Bush but after his dad's and brother's performances, conservatives would be foolish to take another chance on that family.
These leftist idiots never consider the possibility that ordinary Americans like Governor Palin because the leftist MSM hates and fears her. Many people didn’t like McCain largely because he was the left’s “favorite Republican”.
No thanks. Not another "conservative" Bush. The one good thing about the last election is that the "Bush brand" has been permanently discredited.
The Gallup poll was a push-type question "Would you like to see candidate XXX run?". Doesn't mean all that much IMO as far as the horserace. Don't know if it included Democrats.
The Rasmussen post-election poll pitted specific candidates against each other and asked respondents to pick one. It was specifically for GOP voters:
Palin -- 64%
Huckabee -- 12%
Romney -- 11%
The others were in low single digits. I would tend to trust that one and it explains (to me at least) some of the sniping at Palin from within the GOP.

Right now it seems impossible but if it's a matter of national survival again, and if there's no better man I would gladly vote Bush again.

look like neutered toy poodles.
Cuda is a looker with brains a backbone and a conservative streak a mile long.
And she ain’t gonna go along to get along. She’ll call out the big spenders and big wasters.
Of course the D.C. folks don’t like her.
Your assertion is correct only if you ignore the the horde of illegal aliens he's let into this country and allowed to murder in cold blood tens of thousands of citizens and legal residents, a number far in excess of those who died on 9/11/
My mistake. You are correct
No problemo... I did not realize it until Rush informed me Friday!

No, regardless of other issues there would be FAR worse mayhem if the US offensive in the Mid-East had not happened after 9/11.
Our military would be in shambles and we would have had more terror attacks on our soil with the Taliban and Hussein still reigning. A nightmare far worse than what we have now.
So, that justifies spending hundreds of billions of dollars (before interest) in nation building in Mesopotamia? If he would have gone over, kicked ass and come home, that would have been fine. But, he stayed because he wanted to get his face on Mt. Rushmore but failed and will get it on a beer can label instead.
This person thinks conservatives see the presidency in "symbolic terms"? The left has just elected a totally inexperienced unknown candidate because he offered us "symbolic" atonement for the sin of slavery and racism. Obama is one huge "symbol" -- a rorschach for liberals and lefists to see whatever they are yearning for. After four (or God help us eight) years of him they will be as disappointed and disillusioned with him as they were with Clinton.
And in the meantime, Palin will have begun construction on her natural gas pipeline -- the largest infrastructure project in North American history. But regardless of that, there will still be idiots who will say that she's never done anything to prove that she can be a leader.
Why should we be surprised? There are still idiots out there who refuse to acknowledge Reagan's role in peacefully winning the Cold War. No matter. Leaders like Palin and Reagan don't care who gets the credit. The just get the job done.
