A landmark attack in the annals of modern terrorism
National Post( Canada ) ^ | November 28, 2008 | John C. Thompson

The Mumbai attacks represent a scenario that few Western police and security forces have dared envision. Fewer still have prepared for it.

The basic strategy: use a large number of attackers to overwhelm a target city's ability to respond, and then suddenly switch focus to high value targets and seize hostages.

The terrorists first diverted the attention of security forces through a range of incidents involving gunmen all over the city; then, as police attempted to react, they were themselves ambushed. The death of the commander of the Mumbai Counter-Terror Team and two of his principal ....

All persons have a right to protect their lives. I doubt the security bureaucracy will allow the milita, the legal definition of all males 17 to 45, to arm its self, as is its God given right, enshrined in the 2nd Amendment.

Its OK for an Iraqi household to have a AK, but not an American home. Figures.

Good article except they can’t seem to mention the word “muslims” or “islam”

The answer is to take this fight directly to the source. Destroy every town that harbored and trained these subhumans. The locations should be completely leveled. Nothing and nobody should be left standing.

Jihadist chat rooms have often entertained the idea of a hospital attack, but we've never seen it used yet. This tactic will probably become a new standard practice for terrorists.
Is there a more disgusting and despicable lifeform in the universe than a Muslim?

Even after we range far and wide, throughout the galaxy, in our Enterprise-like ships in some far distant future, I think the answer will still be: No, there isn't.

This article is absolutely spot-on! These attacks represented a totally new level of sophistication and coordination, and I hope the major cities in the U.S. take note, as well as the FBI, DHS, and DoD (who are probably already in India doing their analysis).

At some point I think we should be willing to put the existence of Mecca on the table. No "religion" (or whatever that abominable belief system known as "Islam" is) is so tied to a specific geographical location as Islam is to Mecca.

Nuke Mecca.

It's something that must be considered at some point as this subhuman slime spread their filth across the face of the earth.

Memo to All:

As you read this piece by Mark Steyn, I ask you to repeat softly to yourself, at the end of each paragraph:

“President of the United States, Barak Obama.”

See how that makes you feel.

The Muslim Messiah and his Liberal cohorts and RINO’s in the US Congress are completely cluless when it comes to dealing with anything like this attack. They leave America defenseless and an easy target, IMO. Liberals are incapable of protecting this country. The sheeple will be shocked when that reality hits home again.

Who says that they have not envisioned such an occurence here? I have Envisioned it myself a lowly Printer repair guy .
What difference does it make if you envision a bunch of terrorists with automatic weapons and grenades simultaneously attacking sites all over a city ,you have to respond and there will much death . period

Sorry, DHS and CIA won’t be allowed to share intel anymore — Gorelick is going to re-erect “the wall”. Not to worry, though, because “Everybody Loves Obama.”

You hit the nail on the head. IMHO that lack of a 2nd Amendment makes India a tempting target for terrorists. Since private citizens have no means of protecting themselves, the terrorists have 2 advantages: they can single out those few Indians that have guns (e.g. the local police) and they have hours, maybe even a day, before they can expect any armed response from other police and army forces.

You gotta be kidding me. They were ready to run Bush out of office for just wiretapping terrorists. People want their government to keep them safe- but they don't want to pay for it or be inconvenienced. There really isn't any way to protect a school or hospital or hotel from a group of armed terrorists. But if and when it happens, you better believe they'll blame whoever is the mayor or police chief or President (well, ok, they won't blame Obama). The only solution (and it certainly offers no guarantees) is exactly what Bush is doing right now- wiretaps, black site prisons and Gitmo. But the MSM will condemn any politician who does that and the Obama people are salivating at the thought of prosecuting Bush administration and CIA officials for their War on Terror "abuses". As the recent election proves, people have short memories when it comes to terrorism.

Cole, Kobar Towers, 9/11 all were ‘envisioned’, somewhere. It is just the nature of the bureaucy not to get ahead of events. Beauocracy attract risk averse people. Their daily operation inculcate repetition, uniformity, in action and thought.

I think we will have an attack in this country like this. And, it will be the same result as in India, because the fundamentals are the same. Disarmed populace, ordered by law and conditioned by elites to be unarmed and passive, with a security bureaucracy that will not be able to effectively act for a day or so. By then, hundreds will be murdered.

There you go again.

Every Muslim isn’t one of these “slime”.

Ask General David Petraeus, who works with Muslims every day. Who are our allies in Iraq and Afghanistan and in a lot of other troubled regions of the world.

They, too, pray toward Mecca. To “nuke” Mecca would start a world wide war against every Muslim who exists even our closest allies who have fought and died by our side, and in lonely places, to combat this radical scourge.

I’m glad we have the David Petraeuses of the world and would trust them way more than some guy on the internet who keeps lying that all Muslims are identical even though we know better and keeps called for levelling and nuking and wanton, mindless slaughter.

"well as the FBI, DHS, and DoD (who are probably already in India doing their analysis)."

Oh goodie.

Mark Styen...
Many of us, including the incoming Obama administration, look at this as a law-enforcement matter. Mumbai is a crime scene, so let's surround the perimeter with yellow police tape, send in the forensics squad, and then wait for the D.A. to file charges.

There is a defense against this kind of attack, but it is one the police are not going to want to consider.

The defense is a widely armed population. If the terrorists meet determined opposition wherever they go by armed citizens, they will be defeated before the mass police response is even necessary.

The terrorists are devising countermeasures to our centralized defense techniques. The solution is diffuse defense.

There were good Germans too. That was Wilson's notion at Versailles. Since the Germans were not defeated, didn't feel defeated, hadn’t had their self view of themselves, hadn't had the institutions that remained intact after the first World War, the delusions reemerged under Hitler. Same German world view same institutions.

Only when the Germans physically could see everything destroyed, discredited where they able to pull upon a new image with new institutions.

Total destruction is a very good educator.

Worked in the South.
Worked in Germany.
Worked in Japan.
Worked with the Romans at Carthage in the Second Punic war.

It even worked in Chechnya for the Russians.
