You believe that the UN has the authority to override US defense policy or legislation?

What are you talking about? US defense policy has never violated any international law...in spite of what the democraps and mccain try to insinuate.

Are you a mccain supporter?

If it went on for 60 hours then I suspect the military would get involved too...

Let's not forget that in 2002 two Muslim converts operated for 23 days in the Washington DC Metro area and were apprehended due to observant civilians and not due to the diligent investigative efforts of LEOS from two states and Wash DC with FBI straddling the fence in efforts to prop up the incompetent racist Chief Moose.

Given that those two were merely thugs and not trained terrs, ten fire teams of two men with sub-rosa support from the local muslim orgs could effect casualities equal to or surpassing those of Mumbai,

We do not have a military presence in India.

Do you really think india has enough nukes to sway china’s thoughts one way or the other? I doubt either pakistan or india have even the capability to do to japan what USA did in WWII. I could be wrong. Maybe I’m way underestimating the nukes of these two nations. I would be shocked if I am though. My whole brainstorm was based on my belief that pakistan and indian nukes are not more than “token” weapons to be used to puff up national pride and to be used in bluffs. This is no good against a foe such as china. This is why I believe that india would be happy to see nukes removed from the possibilities in the case of a war with pakistan.

Well, China has many more nuclear weapons than India has, primarily because China needs to have enough to have some form of deterence effect against Russia and the United States (not true MAD, not even close, but enough of a deterence). India doesn't have enough nuclear weapons to saturate China, but then again it does not need to. All it needs are enough to ensure that, in the case of a war that gets out of hand, it can strike deep into China and erase key centers. That is all it needs.

Thus, in that regard, it has more than enough nuclear weapons to sway China's thoughts.

As for what the US did to Japan in WW2. If you mean a conventional war, maybe not. The WW2 American war-machine at its close was a behemoth. However, if you mean DAMAGE then a nation like India could easily surpass that. If modern India was taken back to WW2 Japan, it could easily nuke the entire nation back to before the Shogun era! Easily. The two atomic devices at Nagasaki and Hiroshima were basic gun-devices. The level of Indian (and even Pakistani) nuclear weaponry far surpasses that level. By far. In terms of yield and what-not. India would devastate WW2 Japan.

As for token pride, Pakistani nuclear weapons do instill a lot of pride in the country. For instance, AK Khan is seen as a national hero (even after he was revealed as the godfather of nuclear disemination, with a flow leading through him to such 'beautiful' countries like North Korea). The Pakistanis see their nuclear weapons with great pride. However, they are NOT tokens. They work, are effective, and could easily take out Indian cities like cake. They are proven designs (with a lot of Chinese influence), and they can kill as easily as any American or Russian design. They may not be as advanced as the W-88s and what-not from the US, but they will do what is required of them.

Anyways, when it comes to India ....Pakistan is a thorn in the flesh. A thorn that is nuclear, can hurt, and can even kill the nation (a modern war between the two could easily turn nuclear, in which case they'd destroy each other economically). However, the real strategic foe is China (which, in the event of a war, could not only destroy India economically but also as a veritable nation! India, on the other hand, would only destroy China economically). All the weapons on all sides are not tokens. They may instill national pride, but they have the sting nonetheless

India in some ways is the West’s China.

I couldn't have said it better. That is one reason the US is really warming up to China.

Ironically, it is also the same reason why Russia remains very close to India. Both see India as a hedge to Chinese regional hegemony. Mevdev/Putin may have disagreements with Bush/Rice, but both see India in much the same light.
