Two Moroccans arrested in Italy yesterday wanted to blow up the Milan Cathedral on Christmas.
They hoped an attack during the busy holiday would cost dozens of lives. This according to tapped phone calls, reports La Repubblica.
The two belonged to an Islamic terror cell which had been followed by the Italian police already for months...
Rachid Ilhami (31) and Abdelkader Ghafir (43) were arrested in Giussano, a city 25km away from Milan. The detectives gathered from tapped phone calls and confiscated computer files that the two also prepared attacks on a supermarket and a police bureau. They are arrested on suspicion of terrorism and eventual cooperation with al-Qaeda.
Ilhami had been living since he was ten in Italy. He is married and has two children. He worked as a blacksmith and in his free time worked in a center for PEACE ACTIVITIES, in the area of prime minister Silvio Berlusconi's villa, according to Corriere della Sera.

Probably my favorite building in the world. The terrorists hate it, among other reasons, because its external facade is made up of 3000 statues of Catholic saints, so the building could never be converted to a mosque. I’m sure the logic was, well, we’re going to have to blow it up sooner or later.
It was at the Piazzale Loreto, which was then occupied by a large gas station and it today a large traffic circle in downtown Milan. It's about six stops north on the main Metropolitana subway line from the Duomo.

I think landmarks like the Duomos of Milan and Florence, Saint Peter's Basilica, St. Mark's in Venice, etc. etc., are universally recognized in Italy as a prime cultural heritage. My old boss in Italy (God rest his soul) was a longtime Trotskyite who told me that if he ever retired, he'd spend his days sitting atop the Duomo with a machine gun, waiting for the first grafitti writer to approach it with a spray paint can.

They hate figurative art, Christianity and Europe, This cathedral is one of the most beautiful & famous in the world. It will be a dark day when Muslims rule Europe, and it looks like it will happen, given immigration and demographics. They dont even have to be a majority. Just large enough they can threaten with ease, and I’m excluding “ordinary” terror here. They have taken over neighborhoods, cities and at least one nation.

My policy would be this:
If you destroy a church/cathedral we destroy two mosques.
