of course it is cheap.
Interesting, not least because I was just doing some back-of-the-envelope what-if analysis on soup in my own food budget the other day. Concluded immediately that it’s a good gig or Campbell’s and their ilk.
One word: SPAM
Let's hope not, champ.
People just don’t understand how badly America is getting screwed. It doesn’t have to be this way.
The government should require Campbell’s to help bail out the auto industry!
My favorites are plain old Tomato and the Chicken w/Rice
Hot soup, some garlic bread, maybe some scrambled eggs... Good cold-weather winter grub.
LOL! I’ve had it twice this week.
Yummmmmm.
If Campbell sees a boom, imagine how well Purina is going to do! Mmmmmmm.... dog food!

Progresso soup is 8/$10 at my local little grocery store.
Time to stock up at a $12.00 savings.
Campbell’s is good, but I prefer Progresso and can afford it at this sale price.
I always buy the store brand soup because it is so much cheaper, but, I love Campbell’s Chunky soups. I have noticed lately that the chunky soups aren’t as chunky.
I like Campbell’s soup, but of course they would be selling lots of their soup since August (meaning cooler weather from fall into winter).
Their Tomato Bisque is great, by the way, for any tomato soup lovers who’d like a little twist.
Some of the store brands are even cheaper and taste pretty good.
I love soup... so much so that I often buy a 5 lb roasting chicken and some drum sticks/wings, carrots, celery, turnips, onions (yellow and white), parsley, salt and pepper... add water + 5 hours of simmering, then straining and de-bone the carcus = meals that will satisfy Trajan88 for days... add bread and butter and big glasses of milk and I’m golden... platinum ;-)
I grew up eating Campbell soups. I can’t eat them now since they started using MSG in all the soups.
I’ve always made it a point to cook for cheap. Crockpots are great. Bread machines are great. Wild game is great. So is canning and preserving what you grow or pick at a farm. It’s often a topic of dinner conversation to figure out exactly how much my family of three is eating that night. Often, our entire meal comes out to less than $4. No way we could all eat out for $4. That’s the key—eat at home. Stock a pantry. Buy in bulk. If you’re a food snob, give instant mashed potatoes, ramen noodles, bulk rice & store brands a try. Bypass Whole Foods and drive to Aldi’s once in a while. Clip a coupon on occasion. Plan your meals each week. Make sure you don’t eat like a pig so you’ll have leftovers for lunch or dinner the next day. I think eating cheaply is a rather worthy & enjoyable challenge.
Campbell Soup bought Wolfgang Puck Soups not too long ago. Should start distributing them in January 2009 and hopefully getting them into Walmart. I eat them every week, delicious, and far better than Progresso or Campbell Chunky. Check out their Wolfgang’s Roast Chicken with Vegetable soup - yum!
