LONDON: Are men becoming the weaker sex? Well, it seems so from a study which has found evidence that pollution is affecting evolution of males by damaging genitals and their ability to father offspring.
And, according to the study, the male gender is in danger as a host of common chemicals is feminising the males of every class of vertebrate animals, from fish to mammals, including human beings.
Those identified as gender-benders as they interfere with hormones in males include phthalates, used widely in food wrapping, cosmetics and baby powders among other applications; flame retardants in household furniture and electrical goods; and many pesticides.
"This research shows that the basic male tool kit is under threat," the study's lead author Gwynne Lyons was quoted by 'The Independent' as saying.
Researchers have based their study on an analysis of over 250 scientific researches worldwide.
The study concentrates mainly on wildlife, identifying effects in species ranging from the polar bears of the Arctic to the island of the South African plains, and from whales in the depths of the oceans to high-flying falcons and eagles.
It concludes: "Males of species from each of the main classes of vertebrate animals (including bony fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and mammals) have been affected by chemicals in the environment.
"Feminisation of the males of numerous vertebrate species is now a widespread occurrence. All vertebrates have similar sex hormone receptors, which have been conserved in evolution. Therefore, observations in one species may serve to highlight pollution issues of concern for other vertebrates, including humans."
Only if you count Janet Reno, Hillary Clinton, Lindsey Graham, and Barney Fwank.
I swear young men today are less masculine on average than those of just a generation ago.

Many pesticides and antibiotics as well as the chemicals which are given off when plastic is heated are considered xenoestrogens or estrogen mimickers. They disrupt the endocrine system by interfering with true estrogen and it's messages and feedback systems between the organs.
Even men have estrogen messengers in their system, but these unnatural chemicals cause an added burden and confuse the fine tuned systems of communication in the body.

NOBODY threatens my basic male tool kit!
bump for later
Immasculation is not a turn-on.
...”Castration comes in many forms”...
YES! As soon as any sign of testosterone appears in a little boy, he is diagnosed with some kind of attention deficit disorder and in many cases is given Ritalin or some other kind of chemical to make him better behaved and calm, like the little girls.
A lot of horrible, depressing truth in that.
Of course if the occasion should arise and his services are required he says he'll stand to and do his duty just like any red blooded American.
One major problem they fail to mention is the large quantities of estrogen in our regular tap water. So many women are on “birth control” pills, and water treatment plants do not “clean” the water of the hormones in these pills, so these hormones have gotten into the water supply.
There was some study about how this is effecting fish; the male fish aren’t developing properly from too much estrogen. This sounds so bizarre, someone is going to demand a link, so I guess I better go find one.
Why worry about fake estrogen when we are ingesting the real thing? Millions of unused birth control tablets are finding their way into the environment.
Environmentalists know this but they claim to be "powerless" to take on Planned Barrenhood and the culture of death.
‘Some research suggests that these negative effects are having a deleterious impact on men as well, predicting that the average man will be unable to father children within decades. ‘
