WASHINGTON (AP) - Barbra Streisand is visiting the White House on Sunday but says she'll play nice. "Art," she says, "transcends politics this weekend."

Streisand, a vocal critic of President George W. Bush, has the awkward honor of visiting 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue during one of Washington's few A-list events.

The better the voice the emptier the head. (Resonance)

Babs voice always made me think of a hyena being molested by a gang of porcupines.

Nice to see my Boy’s Roger and Pete show up, Just saw them on 11/9 in LA from the 5th row. Best money I have ever spent,

You just know Pete was saying to himself the whole night “Wankers to the left of me, Wankers to the right”

to them at such a loud volume for so many years i can’t hear very well!
i saw them a number of times, too. does roger’s voice still
manage to hit the big notes?

“great video here

Even John Entwistle in this one RIP”

So you like 5:15 from the Quadrophenia tour in the mid ninties. I do too. Here’s one of my favorites from 1969:

"Poor President Bush ?"

You've got to be kidding me ! If President Pollyanna doesn't have the balls to order her kept from the White House it's his own problem.....With all the crap she has spouted she could reasonably be considered a threat.

Typical Bush, trying to make friends with his enemies, but at least his inaction is only hurting himself this time.

“I wonder if they had an SG available for Pete to smash...”

I thought he got over that. And these days he plays Stratocasters (interestingly enough, Eric Clapton Signature Strats).

Pete never smashed up good guitars. I never saw him smash up the Les Paul's he use to play.
I didn't know Kennedy Center honoured non US citizens. I'm a huge WHO fan, especially the original (Pete Townsend, Roger Daltrey, Keith Moon and John Entwhistle) members.

Do you see Bab’s hand creeping up Morgan’s thigh? He is looking down at it like it’s a bug.

He’s played a lot of stuff. Though every time I see somebody trashing a guitar, I get a little sad inside. It’s a perfectly good instrument getting destroyed on stage.

I’ve been playing the same Stratocaster for 5 years, so I guess I’m a little biased.

Dunno about that, but he sure did smack up a lot of SG’s. Sure, they’re cheap as Gibsons go, but still not cheap.

But on that note, I only ever saw Kurt Cobain smash up Japanese Strats, never his Jaguar or Mustangs.

They don’t make US citizenship a requirement - I think they look for impact in the USA but not citizenship. The award has been given to Pavarotti, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and even Elton John:

Following that rule, then Streisand should be a genius....

Yes. He and Pete are both proud Brits.

Trivia: Daltrey once did a cameo in a Babs video about 25 years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-slIu4pqQ8

As far as I know, he last smashed one in ‘02 or ‘04. I think it was at Jones Beach.

As a guitarist myself, I don’t like watching anyone destroy their instruments either. To me, my guitars are part of my being.

Looking at your handle, by any chance are you an Iron Maiden fan?

I’ve always disliked the guitar-smashing thing, don’t know how any musician can do it. Apparently Pete Townshend and Jimi Hendrix fought over who would “get to do it” at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monterey_Pop_Festival

The Who

Although already a big act in the UK, and gaining some attention in the US, Monterey was the concert that propelled The Who into the American mainstream. The band’s famed performance was decided by a coin toss, since guitarists Pete Townshend and Jimi Hendrix each refused to go on after the other. The Who won, and went on to perform an explosive show which ended with the band destroying their instruments.

Jimi Hendrix

Hendrix, inspired by Pete Townshend’s guitar-smashing, ended his Monterey performance with an unpredictable version of “Wild Thing”, which he capped by kneeling over his guitar with playful reverence, pouring lighter fluid over it, setting it aflame, and then smashing it.[4] This produced unforeseen sounds and these actions contributed to his rising popularity in the USA [5]
