NEW YORK – The New York Times is reporting that NBC has signed its late-night star Jay Leno to a contract that will keep him at the network and move him to prime time.

Under the new deal, Leno, whose "Tonight" show hosting job will go to Conan O'Brien, would have a new show airing 10 p.m. Eastern every weeknight.

The deal reportedly will be announced Tuesday.

Leno... would have a new show airing 10 p.m. Eastern every weeknight.

I'm shocked that a major network would give up so much time for yet-another talk show. Isn't 10:00 pm a pretty valuable spot for NBC? Over the years they've run such hits as "Law and Order," "ER," "LA Law," and "Hill St Blues" in that slot.

The local NBC affiliates must be cursing NBC corporate. Leno would be a terrible lead-in to the 11pm/10pm news - the most important time period for local news.

Potty humor may amuse 5 year-olds,and mentioning sex organs every two minutes might get laughs from young teens, but I don’t think they stay up that late....therefore, Leno fans must all be cases of arrested development.

I suspect producing five one hour shows with Leno each week is considerably cheaper than producing five one hour dramas, sit-coms, etc.

I’d rather watch Johnny Carson reruns.

They threw out the tapes decades ago when they thought there was no use for them. The clips that remain are from best ofs...

They better leave Law and Order alone...all of them.

Sad, they knew not what they did! Remember Soupy Sales, or the Smother’s Brothers [when they first started], the Gong Show? Good, clean, laugh a minute comedy. Not the foul, bodily function stuff of nowadays.

Leno is a nice guy and I like his car collection, but as a comedian, I’ve never seen why he is so highly rated.

He has the most annoying habit—that of adding comments after the punchline—that makes him totally unfunny.

Letterman was the natural progression from Carson.

He had a good show after the Tonight show.

It's all about egos.

Carson knew that Letterman would have a very good show if he took over for him.

Carson also knew that Leno, always a second rate comedian, wouldn't do as good a job, therfore making Carson's legacy much better.

And Letterman was quite bitter and went downhill ever since.

O’Brian was a writer (behind the scenes which is where he should have stayed) and is a third rate comedian.

I don't get why people like to watch him and think he is funny.

But then I never got the appeal of the bodily-function humorists...Myers, Wayne and Garth etc.

Leno decided to retire and not renew his contract, so Conan was given a quite expensive contract and a date to take over the Tonight show (Carson must be spinning in his grave).

Leno changed his mind and naturally Conan, seeing himself as much better than Leno or any other comedian for that matter (he believes his own hype), would not let his contract go.

He made it clear he would have no problem sitting around with Leno continuing the show and him (O'Brian) getting his millions per year from his contract.

NBC, naturally didn't want that, so Leno was out.

And now he is “back” with a prime time show?

As the world turns...

Actually I like Leno. I live walking distance from NBC and see him all over town. He supports local small business owners, and I really kind have grown to like him even though no one can ever replace Johnny Carson.

Well I know ER is not returning so that is one slot it will be replacing...Life...Friday Night Lights...Knight Rider...Chuck...My Own Worst Enemy...all will or are goners along with Lipstick Jungle. Not one single show other than Sunday Night Football is in the TOP 20 for NBC. Law and Order literally rules the roost for them along with Heroes and Medium. Deal or No Deal has dropped in ratings as well as American Gladiators.

Leno is head and shoulders above all of his peers, no argument here.

You ever watch FrankTV on TBS? Frank Caliendo OWNS Leno in those skits. What talent he has.

I see him a lot because of his car collection. He often will show up at Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant in Toluca Lake. We bring our collectible there sometimes as well.

.

Leno -

His car collection is amazing

He has a car with a tank engine

A motorcycle with a jet engine

His restored ‘55 Buick Roadmaster with the 572 Chevy engine is a piece of work -

I’m with both of you. I have not watched a single minute of CBS/ABC/NBC/CNN/MSNBC/CNBC since the election. I also won’t watch network they own either. The bias was so bad, I don’t want to support them in any way. I’d rather read or FReep.

Far better than Conan.

What do we get with him?
Hemorrhoid boy and masturbating bears.

Works on 9 year olds I guess.

As soon as I hear the theme, I start channel surfing, because most infomercials are more entertaining!

Yet another reason for me to continue avoiding NBC and the other networks (and most other TV for that matter).
