Montgomery Erasing Gifted Label (Barf w/ chunks - PC nonsense)
The Washington Post ^ | 12-16-08 | Daniel de Vise

The label of gifted, as prized to some parents as a "My Child Is an Honor Student" bumper sticker, is about to be dropped by the Montgomery County school system.

Officials plan to abandon a decades-old policy that sorts second-grade students, like Dr. Seuss's Sneetches, into those who are gifted (the Star-Belly sort) and those who are not. Several other school systems in the region identify children in the same manner. But Montgomery education leaders have decided that the practice is arbitrary and unfair.

Exceptional-ism is the antithesis of Marxism. Shortening or lengthening the race, tying one arm behind one person's back and giving another a baseball bat are the overt signs of Communism.

If you are smart and succeed, you do not need the government for much, plain and simple. Those people always end up paying much more than they contribute, in the end.

Marxists do not like independent intellect as it debases their collective thought ideology.

I feel as if seeing right through Katie Couric, Keith Olbermann or even the New York Times isn't because I'm a raving right-wing lunatic, but bright enough to see the implicit brainwashing and toxic Communism disguised as “do-gooder” or “tolerant” behavior, when in fact, it is the opposite.

I thank God I can see through the Marxist garbage and don't want to end up in an Obama gulag for political prisoners.

"Two-fifths of Montgomery students are considered gifted on the basis of aptitude tests, schoolwork, expert opinion and parents' wishes. Officials say the approach slights the rest of the students who are not so labeled. White and Asian American students are twice as likely as blacks and Hispanics to be identified as gifted."

I find it interesting that the other three-fifths of parents have not requested that their kids participate in the gifted programs, which are more work for the kids and for the parents, but at least some of them object to other kids getting something they don't want. That is a unique identifying feature of democrats. If a kid is getting a higher level of music or art than my talentless kids get, I think that is great. If another kid is doing something in creative writing that is being published in the school paper, magazine, or whatever, I'm all for that too. I don't feel slighted if someone else does well; I feel proud for them. I'm a conservative, and I think accomplishment is good.

And here I thought that the gifted students were being separated because they wouldn't THRIVE in the normal learning environment (or so I've heard). I thought that it was a wonder that they wouldn't die of sheer boredom in the normal environment. But here we are again...if you separate gifted students, that's RACIST!

Not in my daughter's school. She is one of only 2 white kids in the Talented and Gifted (TaG) class for the 5th grade. There are 9 children in the class and none are Asian and only 1 is Hispanic.

I guess other white pareents could claim racism, considering non-hispanic whites are a minority in the school.........

The best classes I ever had in school were the ones for gifted students. Back then it was called the “accelerated” program. The regular classes were too often a boring waste of time. I thought many of the teachers were stupid. With the perspective of 30+ years, I still think so.

“White and Asian American students are twice as likely as blacks and Hispanics to be identified as gifted.”

The Bell Curve, huh?

But, orientals (”Asians”) aren’t true minorities, because they don’t fit the mold of being oppressed by whitey.

I would agree with that more than the official pathetic PC reason.

Just like I hate those “My child is great” stickers on cars. I think that’s not only arrogant but inflating the egos of the children involved.

Actually I’m shocked those things are in vogue, with all the talk about “self-esteem”. After all, they stopped giving out athletic trophies just to the real good players because it might hurt feelings of the other 95%.

Being a retired veteran of the Talented and Gifted classes, I can tell you first hand, it is NOT a label that helps them in school. Youu may just as well give them pocket protectors and taped birth control glasses.

They get ridiculed from everyone else in the school, just because they have an aptitude for learning the basics of education.

20%? That seems awfully high. Maybe the standards for the gifted label have been lowered, because in my day, it was more like 1%.

So, if you think your kid is so smart, that you HAVE to put a bumper sticker on your car, you deserve criticisim, Becase YOUR being stupid. You open yourself up to criticism, and I swear, if I see a “Baby on board” car sign again on the interstate,... well I’ll be nice, I may make a geusture or three.

First rule of Internet ranting... If you're going to rant and call someone else stupid, be sure and check your grammar and spelling when you do so as to not come across as an idiot...

The public school system has been about the systematic dumbing down of the population for 40 years+, the election of Fauxbama is the culmination of their success in that regard.

Leaving your children in public school when you have any means available not to, is pure and simple child abuse, period.

You are spot on.

In my estimation, that is the chief reason why they loathe HomeSchoolers and would like to outlaw the practice altogether.
