Cops: Cape Girardeau woman kills man who returned to rape her second time [armed citizen]
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH | 10/31/2008 | Heather Ratcliffe

An intended rape victim shot and killed her attacker this morning in Cape Girardeau when he broke into her home to rape her a second time, police said.

The 57-year-old woman shot Ronnie W. Preyer, 47, a registered sex offender, in the chest with a shotgun when he broke through her locked basement door. Click Here!

The woman told police he was the same man who raped her several days earlier. Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.

In the first incident, the woman heard glass breaking in her basement about midnight on Saturday. She went to leave the house, and the man attacked when she opened the front door. He punched her in the face and then forced her into a bedroom, where he raped her, said H. Morley Swingle, prosecuting attorney in Cape Girardeau County.

The victim reported the crime to police, and her landlord repaired the broken window.

She was home alone again Friday about 2:15 a.m. when Preyer broke the same basement window. The victim was awake watching television, when Preyer switched off the electricity to her house.

She tried to call 911, but couldn't because the power was off. She got a shotgun and waited as the man began banging on the basement door. She fired when Preyer came crashing through the door. When Preyer collapsed, the woman escaped and went to a neighbor's home, where she called police. Officers, who arrived within a minute, found a bleeding Preyer stumbling away from the house. He was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where he died several hours later.

Swingle said the victim identified Preyer as the attacker in both incidents. Preyer, of Jackson, Mo., had wet caulking from the recently repaired basement window on his clothing when he was shot.

"I will not be filing any sort of charge against this 57-year-old woman, who was clearly justified under the law in shooting this intruder in her home," Swingle said.

Next to my bed is my old Model 97 12 gauge loaded with a new ammo I bought. It is a single .65 diameter ball surrounded with six .25 diameter balls all neatly packed in a special sabot.

Never fired the stuff yet, but it sure looks like it will make a mess of whatever is downrange.

Poor woman having that bloody mess in the basement to clean up.
She probably had to call a cleaner.

That looks pretty nasty. What does a box run? How many rounds in a box?

On future weapons he was showing an automatic 12 ga that has a 40 rounds drum. He used number two at two hundred yards and it destroyed the target, a 4’x8’ piece of plywood.

I strongly recommend putting a box or two down-range, so that you will know:

1) that it functions in your shotgun
2) how it shoots (relative to point of aim)
3) felt recoil from that load.

"Buck and Ball" was a popular military and militia load in the early 1800s, still in use into the War Between the States.

I hope he didn't any pain meds those last few hours while a shrill voiced bureaucrat equipped with a form laden clipboard asked him about his medical insurance
Or better yet, I hope that they "mistakenly" shot him up with amphetamines in the place of pain meds. Really make him wide awake for his last miserable hours on earth.

I think, at least for my purposes, that you don't need anything larger than a #4s inside your house. In fact 6s and 7 1/2s are fine under 15 yards and they will not over penetrate your wall and go into your neighbors home. I have fired many rounds through sandwitches of drywall and insulation at the range and bird shot is devastating at close range but keeps down incidental damages.

“Good for her! I would only say she should have shot him again so he would not have been able to leave the scene.”

He didn’t get far...

“Officers, who arrived within a minute, found a bleeding Preyer stumbling away from the house.”

I recommend a 20 gauge for most women and even some men; it’s about 75% as potent as a 12 gauge, which should be more than enough to drop almost all perps, and the recoil is much more manageable. Get a youth model with a smaller stock, shorter barrel, and you’ll have yourself a dandy home defense gun. As for shot size, I don’t know if it matters all that much; I prefer 00 but I know some folks have penetration concerns.

You might want to check out what The Box Of Truth has to say:

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot3.htm

Regarding bird shot, this is from the article:

When To Use Birdshot
A friend of AR15.com sends this:

"I saw a gunshot victim, about 5' 10" and 200 lbs, taken to the operating room with a shotgun wound to the chest. He was shot at a range of six feet at a distance of just over the pectoral is muscle. He was sitting on his front porch and walked to the ambulance. We explored the chest after x-rays were taken. The ER doc had said 'buckshot' wound, but this was obviously not accurate.

It was # 6 shot. There was a crater in the skin over an inch in diameter. When the shot hit the level of the ribs, it spread out about five inches. There was ONE pellet that had passed between the ribs and entered the pericardium, but not damaged the heart at all. As you say, 'use birdshot for little birds.'"

I saw that episode, I was drooling by the time it was over.

Here is the place I bought my boxes -

Made by Centurion, comparable to slug prices round for round so I bought three boxes.
