An intended rape victim shot and killed her attacker this morning in Cape Girardeau when he broke into her home to rape her a second time, police said.
The 57-year-old woman shot Ronnie W. Preyer, 47, a registered sex offender, in the chest with a shotgun when he broke through her locked basement door. Click Here!
The woman told police he was the same man who raped her several days earlier. Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.
In the first incident, the woman heard glass breaking in her basement about midnight on Saturday. She went to leave the house, and the man attacked when she opened the front door. He punched her in the face and then forced her into a bedroom, where he raped her, said H. Morley Swingle, prosecuting attorney in Cape Girardeau County.
The victim reported the crime to police, and her landlord repaired the broken window.
She was home alone again Friday about 2:15 a.m. when Preyer broke the same basement window. The victim was awake watching television, when Preyer switched off the electricity to her house.
She tried to call 911, but couldn't because the power was off. She got a shotgun and waited as the man began banging on the basement door. She fired when Preyer came crashing through the door. When Preyer collapsed, the woman escaped and went to a neighbor's home, where she called police. Officers, who arrived within a minute, found a bleeding Preyer stumbling away from the house. He was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where he died several hours later.
Swingle said the victim identified Preyer as the attacker in both incidents. Preyer, of Jackson, Mo., had wet caulking from the recently repaired basement window on his clothing when he was shot.
"I will not be filing any sort of charge against this 57-year-old woman, who was clearly justified under the law in shooting this intruder in her home," Swingle said.
“Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.”

Good advice, since I leave it for home defense in my bedroom I was planning on mentally thinking “slug” when/if I shoot it.
I guess since it doesn’t take a hot poker in the butt to get me to go shooting I will take your advice this weekend and see just how it does.

I live out in the middle of the woods surrounded by a house full of dogs both inside and out. There is no other dwelling within sight of my house in any direction, heck I have even used my .340 Weatherby as a beaver deterrent without anyone being bothered.
My upstairs is easily defended without my kids rooms being in the line of fire, and I have a mental map of where they are in relation to me. My plan is to be up and moving before they get to my stairwell, after that their ass is mine.
I doubt even Mario Greymist* could get into my house without enough warning that I will be positioned and prepared.

How sad, the poor guy was probably just feeling down and lonesome and longing to have a pleasant conversation with some kind lady, and instead he was cruelly slaughtered like a vicious wild animal by a vengeful gun toting woman. The tragic murder of this poor man is what comes of that insane 18th century idea of allowing just any Tom, Dick, and Harry to tote around a dangerous killing machine that should be banned.
But don't worry, a remedy to all this terrible gun violence is on the way. Don't you think it's just so great that we will soon have a new president and Congress that really cares about us and the chillrun instead of big corporations like Halliburton and will finally put a stop to all this awful gun violence? After all, nobody needs a dangerous gun in this 21st century society when we will soon have a civilian security corps as large and well armed as the military to protect us, right? Banning guns and creating that type of civilian security force worked out really well in pre-WWII Germany and I'm sure it will here too. I think it was called the Gestapo or something like that, but who could remember a silly old name after all these years?
I thought of that too. I figure if someone breaks into my house just the sound of chambering a round in that thing with all the clicks and clanks and that final clunk when it closes will probably put the fear of God in almost anyone.
Best alarm system I can think of would be that sound played when the door knob is turned....

True that. However should the need arise that you have a stupid and deaf person breaking into your home we wouldn’t want that old 97 to fly apart in your hands. Better to get some 2 3/4 inch lead dueces and if you have to fire at close range it will stop most anything.

Number 3 buck is the largest shot commercially available for a 20 gauge, but should be adequate for these distances. My home gun is a 16 gauge “deer gun” with a 20 inch barrel (first round is #4, next two #1 buck, last is a slug). I have experimented with old 5 gallon plastic buckets filled with water and it is impressive.
There are a whole lot of anti-gun people who say there is a moral duty to retreat from a home invasion. I try to see their side, but I just don't see the first time around outcome as moral. Clearly, this wonderful woman agreed with the NRA on the second home invasion, producing an outcome second only to being prepared the first time as the best of all possible outcomes.
I'd love to know what happened between this guy getting shot and him finally bleeding to death. Did the ambulance show up, find out how he was shot, and the guys took a coffee break before hauling this rapist in? Did the woman hold him down at gunpoint until he had nearly bled out and then let him stagger off to die slowly, in well-deserved pain? So many options, and I hope she's shart enough not to tell any inconvenient truths out loud.
Liberals will be enraged that this serial rapist was denied due process and an opportunity to reform into a productive member of society or at least into a parasitic Democrat voter.

Since it took him quite a while to expire it was probably birdshot. Double ought buckshot at that range would probably have alleviated the perp's primal sexual urges right on the spot where he stood.
Some self proclaimed "experts" say that birdshot won't stop a determined attacker, but way back when I was just a teenager my uncle killed a 400 lb black bear with two 12 gauge # 8 shells while quail hunting in south FL. He and the bear surprised each other when he walked around a dense stand of baygalls where the bear was feeding on palmetto buds, and the bear reared up on his hind legs about 10-15 feet away.
Uncle Cecil said that he was so shocked by the bear's sudden move that without even thinking he threw his Browning automatic shotgun up to his shoulder and fired two loads of # 8s into the upright bear's chest. The bear then dropped down to all four legs and ran a short distance before he collapsed.
The FL fish and game commission sent a pair of it's law enforcement agents down to inspect the bear's carcass which was hung up in the local ice house, and at that time, early 1950's, they said it was the largest bear ever killed and weighed in south FL.
I have no doubt that at close range #8 will ruin your day and knock the perp off his feet to be sure.
Number 2 steel shot on the other hand will drop a man at 200 yards, closer and we don’t even want to talk about it.
I’m thinking of getting a rifled slug barrel and a scope for some distance practice.
