Obama names strong science team

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US president-elect Barack Obama on Saturday signaled climate change and genetic research will be among his top priorities when he takes office as he named four key members of his administration.

"It's time we once again put science at the top of our agenda and worked to restore America's place as the world leader in science and technology," said Obama in a weekly radio address.

Leading his list of nominees is John Holdren, who would become director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and co-chairman of the president's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

The professor of environmental policy at Harvard University led the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, an international organization of prominent scientists that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995.

Holdren is no stranger to Washington, having served as President Bill Clinton's science and technology adviser in the 1990s.

...

Nor did Obama openly comment on earlier attempts by some Bush administration officials to downplay the importance of global warming.

But in what seemed to be a clear reference to these controversies, he warned of the danger of twisting facts to suit political purposes.

"It's about ensuring that facts and evidence are never twisted or obscured by politics or ideology," the future president noted. "It's about listening to what our scientists have to say, even when it's inconvenient -- especially when it's inconvenient."

The whole statement is absurd, we are the science and technology leader of the world. We’ve been that way for a long time, and unless Zero is more successful at destroying us than he can even hope for, we’ll continue to be.

At best we have elected a Pontificater in Chief.

Commander suggests leader, he is neither.

Any “so-called” scientist who believes in global warming is not a real scientist. Obama is a snake oil salesman.

The snake oil salesman club called, stop trying to associate them with Obama. You may ruin their image.

“What kind of yahoo believes this fawning, orgasmic coverage of lower cabinet appointments?”

My in-laws that’s who. They’re complete morons. And they started Thanksgiving dinner by thanking God for the new pres... Needless to say it was THE worst Thanksgiving of my life. And I will never speak to them again.

I don’t call it a strong science team when they are guided by politics and superstition.

I happen to know both of these guys. They are both accomplished, sincere, intelligent individuals. They are also wholly committed ideologues who will not pay the slightest attention to any idea or any data that questions the Warmist’s party line. Our only hope is that neither of them has shown any particular talent for working successfully in the “real world,” so their worst proposals may die abed.

We can also hope that the increasingly evident global cooling trend will cause the voting public to laugh out loud at their more radical proposals. (We cannot realistically hope that the reality of global cooling will cause them to moderate those proposals.)

Like saying colder temps are because of global warming?

I would agree that there is a rather strong smell of agenda about this team.

YEP! This is no strong *science* team, but rather a cruel joke.

“That right there will lead them to be involved in scandals of enormous proportions right before the 2012 elections.

Or, maybe as early as 2010 just in time for Congressional elections.”

You still believe in elections? They’ll just cheat.
