Sue a Congressionally approved government contractor? I guess that’s possible. I’ll just have to budget a foreign villa, a retirement fund and keep the grant in an offshore account.

WaPo - 18 July 08
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/07/18/ST2008071802580.html

Seventy-five percent of Americans in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll said gay people who are open about their sexual orientation should be allowed to serve in the U.S. military, up from 62 percent in early 2001 and 44 percent in 1993.

Pew Research Mar 2006:
The public supports a policy of allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military by a margin of 60% to 32%. This represents significantly broader support for this inclusive policy than in 1994, when 52% favored allowing gays to serve openly and 45% were opposed.

That's the bottom line. If someone is incapable of taking, “No,” for an answer, they have no business serving no matter who or what they are. I can't believe all homosexuals are rabid, slobbering sex addicts who would rape another human being against their will.

If we've got rapists of any orientation serving in the military, they need to go which brings me full circle to my original point — risky behavior of any kind means risks to others who don't need that burden on top of the risks they are already taking on our behalf.

When you're up to your elbows in blood, it's no time to be worrying about whose it is.

“That’s it — let them serve REALLY openly with some sort of designation on their uniforms.”

Like the 6-pointed star?

My idea did give me pause over that issue, but it would be OPENLY serving — maybe they could just wear green tights. ;-)

I think people miss the whole point here: homosexuality is about SEX! They want to live their lives through their sex style - this is no way to live! There is more to life than sex! The military might and security of the US is NOT a place to experiment with questionable social injustices!

Now picture this, you have 125+ hard bodied, sweaty, young, sexually active Marines all living, showering and sleeping together and you don’t think they “care” if one or more of those in that group are gay? You are WRONG! You shower within six (6) inches of the guy next to you! When I was in, the kwansit huts and most field crappers had no separator walls! There is very little “personal” time in the Military and NONE during boot camp and field operations. Men are not allowed to have females in their barrack rooms to avoid things “getting out of control,” so what is going to stop these guys? Where is the equality in that?

While in the Corps, at Camp Lejeune, we had three Marines get drunk out of their minds and two of them decided to rape their buddy in 1991! Two other Marines walked in on the situation and began to beat these two half-to-death! Before we could stop the beatings, several more Marines jumped in to the fray! These two guys barely survived to get their Court Martial!

“My idea did give me pause...”

Pausing is good.

Then, there's that...two would-be rapists who barely survive to be tried...I guess the operative world here is “rapists”.

I have to say, if it turns into another haven for perverts (like our Catholic seminaries did for a while), being a Marine will take on a whole new meaning for me. This is going to be a tough issue. Can't see a way through it.

Thank you. I tend to get “carried away” which is something my sainted father always cautioned me not to do. ;-)

“A Gay military would have no problem rounding up Christians.’

Yes they would, they’d have too many holes in themselves and be leaking to torrentially to really be able to concentrate on the job at hand.

You are full of it. Most (not all) of our military comes from conservative areas of the South and Midwest and a repeal of the Gay Ban would kill recruitment and be another cause and effect (out of many other reasons)on our long road to self-destuction or Civil War II.

I tend to make light of things too often. My son is concerned about openly serving gays which I tend to shrug off. I just don’t see him being a target at 6’4” and 205 lbs of muscle and an even smarter mouth than I have, but as I often say — what do I know?

I do worry about cross contamination in a battle situation. That’s the last thing I’d want you guys to worry about. I handle things as only I can, and he’ll have to handle them in his manner — hopefully, with a certainty of the boundaries in which he may maneuver.

If someone wants to admire my ass in the shower — especially at my age — have at it, but I get to set the boundaries on who gets to touch it, and if I say no, there isn’t any way the signal will EVER be missed or ignored. Some women really ARE nasty when crossed, although I try VERY hard to maintain a higher standard.

There is a saying in the Navy:

‘Not in my Navy!’

Never so true as with this.

If having to serve with a gay person is enough to make them abandon the defense of their nation, the military is better off without them.

If a nation is intent upon inflicting perverted sodomites upon it's noble young defenders, that nation might be better off without a defense.

DoD policy:

AD members with serologic evidence of HIV infection determined to be fit for duty shall be allowed to serve in a manner that ensures access to appropriate medical care.
