Wrong, Rachel: Maddow Claims Clinton Inherited 'Economic Downturn' From H.W.

Maybe Rachel Maddow watched one too many clips of Bill Clinton during the '92 campaign claiming George H.W. had "driven the economy into a ditch" and that things were as bad as they'd been since the Depression. In the course of trying to lower expectations for Obama to the max on her show tonight, and tracing the history of the economies previous presidents inherited, Maddow claimed that "Clinton took the oath during an economic downturn."
Uh, no. He took office in the midst of an economy that was growing at a "fast pace." But don't take my word for it. "Fast pace" was the way economic growth was characterized at the time by the . . . New York Times.

By ROBERT D. HERSHEY JR., January 29, 1993 The economy grew at a faster-than-expected annual rate of 3.8 percent in the final quarter of 1992, the strongest performance in four years, the Commerce Department reported today.Unfortunately those numbers came out AFTER the 1992 election.

True. So Clinton, Carville & Co. were able to get away with defrauding the American people during the campaign as to the state of the economy.

Hurricane Andrew and the LA riots of 1992 were probably a bigger hindrance (played up by the MSM as usual) than the mild 91-92 recession. Rachel Madcow was only about 21 back then, so she is just repeating the headlines she may have read at the time.
“It’s the economy stupid” trumped the end of the Cold War and having the former Soviets begging for mercy.

We will pay a long time for this degenerate, his enablers, sycophants and co-conspirators. And almost all of them are back in power in 2008 with an empty suit, puppet President. This cant have a good outcome.

She has a vote up on her site who most deserves to be seated in Senate: Franken, Kennedy or Burris — Franken wins with 81%... tells you more than we needed about her audience.

The Carville Clinton team badmouthed Bush's economy during his election.
After Clinton's take over, the first quarter came in with a 8% growth rate, a booming economy.
Clinton, instead of living up to his promised tax cut gave us the biggest tax increase in history.
To zero in on Clinton's leaving:
Clinton left a recession for G.W. Bush after this high tech bubble blew up, followed by 09/11 which was planned and prepared during Clinton's term, as this Monica distraction took up Bill's entire attention.
