OAKLAND, Calif. — Protests over the fatal shooting of an unarmed man by a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer turned violent Wednesday night with windows broken, fires set and train stations closed.

A few hundred protesters took the streets of downtown Oakland to condemn the shooting and call for criminal charges against 27-year-old officer Johannes Mehserle. Oakland police reported at least 15 arrests.

Grant's family has filed a $25 million wrongful death claim against BART and want prosecutors to file criminal charges against Mehserle.

...

Earlier in the day, about a thousand of Grant's friends and family members attended a funeral for Grant, the father of a 4-year-old girl, at a Hayward church.

Damn, that filing was quick. I find myself wondering if they stopped off to sign the papers for the claim on their way to the funeral or on the way back home afterwards.

So that’s what was going on last night. I walked down to the store and I noticed a lot of police/helicopter activity, so I knew something was up.

It usually turns out to be a lot of ado about nothing, though.

I was thinking, with all the money we owe China, I wonder if they would be willing to take California and call it even. Not like CA isn’t Kommunist anyway.

You have to understand: violence and civil disturbances are a staple of life in Oakland. When the Raiders lose, people riot; when the Raiders win, people riot. If the people in Oakland are not murdering each other - which they do frequently - they're doing drugs or rioting.

Please remember Gertrude Stein's description of Oakland: there is no there, there.

The bystanders were just people waiting for their trains at a busy station

Bull$h!+. Many bystanders were causing a disturbance and creating an environment of chaos.

Get used to riots. I predict this is only the beginning. With The Marxist Onada in the White House the dysfunctional Black community will be emboldened to take the law into its own hands whenever it suits it.

Faux Revs Sharpton and Jackson—and other Black rabble rousers— have a new lease on life and will be leading the charge.

Maybe they should call for more gun control, like the New York Times editorial board did after the VT massacre.

It could have been much worse. There was no looting as far as I know, the property damage was limited primarily to cars, newspaper boxes, trash receptacles and store windows. I live near “ground zero” and could see a car go up in flames from my bedroom window. I was expecting to see much worse damage this morning than there actually was.

There are always those who blame the victim. What do we call them?
