Despite legal and security hurdles, president-elect Barack Obama says he has a plan to retain his beloved Blackberry once he moves into the White House next week.
Interviewed by CNN Friday, Obama said the smartphone was among the tools that he would use to stay in touch with real Americans and avoid becoming trapped inside the presidential "bubble."
"I think we're going to be able to hang on to one of these. My working assumption, and this is not new, is that anything I write on an email could end up being on CNN," he said.
"So I make sure to think before I press 'send'," he said of his Blackberry, which was an ever-present fixture on his belt or in his hand on the campaign trail.
Obama did not divulge just how he will overcome legal constraints, given the requirement of the post-Watergate Presidential Records Act of 1978 to keep a record of every White House communication.
Nor did he say how he would persuade his Secret Service protectors that the Blackberry does not pose a security risk, for instance if it is hacked over the air.

"It's just one tool among a number of tools that I'm trying to use, to break out of the bubble, to make sure that people can still reach me," he said.
"If I'm doing something stupid, somebody in Chicago can send me an email and say, 'What are you doing?'
"I want to be able to have voices, other than the people who are immediately working for me, be able to reach out and send me a message about what's happening in America."
The mobile device dilemma may have inadvertently been solved on Friday, as Obama's Blackberry tumbled from his belt as he got out of his limousine

I find it hard to believe you could get an unclassified signal through the EM countermeasures that surround the presidential “bubble”. It’ll be little more than a gameboy the minute he steps into the presidential limo.
He’s willing to put this country at risk..someone could hack that and get all kinds of info..he’s a self centered jerk!!!!

Like Obama needs someone in Chcicago calling him and telling him he is a loser. . .this is simply a reflection 'of the man'; and his level of thoughtful competence.
May all the Obamanaut's relate and celebrate this gross inmaturity; which will surely manifest in a host of ways; and cause as many problems as well.
OTOH. . .first rule for a Leftist, is that there are simply no rules that they must follow.

Apparently, there are all kinds of things that are annoying to Obama and ‘cramping his style’.
Obama appears to believe that he can be President and dictate the terms and boundaries of the job. He can still get 90 minutes of exercise a day, he can have a blackberry, he can go back to his house in Chicago ever ‘4-6 weeks’ and not have some ‘vacation place like Kennebunkport’.
Obama will probably be able to convince Al Qaeda to only threaten us on odd months so that Obama has time to work in a cruise here or there. Maybe he can get the economy to quite down for a while so he can spend time catching up on the Chicago Bulls season.
Who knows what else Obama things is to inconvenient for him in spite of his spending the last four years running for the most powerful job in the entire free world? Maybe he is going to want to go out and buy his own groceries or being able to drive his own car also? Maybe he will want to go out to movie theatres whenever there is a new Spike Lee joint down at the mall in Ballston. Maybe he will try to hit the twice a year Mens Wearhouse sales.
Who knows? But it sure seems an awful lot like this guy has no idea at all what the job of President of The United States is about and what is expected of the person who holds it.
Obama is not a real American and he it looks like he doesn’t know any real Americans.
His blackberry is a tool alright to isolate him from anyone in America.
I believe there may be a DOD directive that required every participant in classified briefings relinquish all wireless devices prior to even entering the briefing room.
Let him fly as high as his egomanic pea brain will take him.
No wireless devices in classified areas or briefings. Of course, he (like BJ Clinton) is above the rules/law.

I expect that Obama intends to discriminate AGAINST me, by not giving me his phone number and email address.
We should require that the people that DO have such access truly represent a cross section of Americans, not just black people and government employees.
The dems tried to find out who gave Cheney advice on energy, so we should KNOW who is getting through to the Presidential Blackberry account.
