The Almanacs/Weavers also dressed the part of authentic jes’ plain folks, sporting farmer’s overalls on stage. Anticipating the fashion affectations of later pop stars, in which studiedly grungy clothing often serves as both costume and political statement, they suffered from what biographer Dunaway calls “a bad case of proletarian chic.”

We can think back with pride to decades of hard work toward our strategic goal of a big enough, broad enough and united enough labor and all-people’s movement that could overcome the ultra-right blockage to all progress. That all people’s movement has come to life, it is dynamic and it has the potential to keep growing.
The election of Barack Obama and a strengthened Congress creates new conditions in our country. There is now the possibility to shift gears and move forward. This new day requires us to further develop our tactics in order to continue to deepen and broaden labor and people’s unity.
There are thousands of experiences that we all have had in these momentous days, some large, some small, all of which express the enormity of change in thinking and readiness for involvement that is underway and that steels us for the battles ahead.
The tears of joy we all shared as crowds gathered to watch the election results here and throughout the world dramatize the new moment we are in.

That dust jacket picture has been torquing my jaws since I first saw it. A flagrant Adlai Stevenson '56 ripoff. And here it is again in the crowd, lovingly captured for posteriority. This whole story is like a bad TV show. That's probably why the public is sucking it up so eagerly. I just wonder how much permanent damage will be done before the show is finally cancelled.

Perhaps Hussein Obama enjoys watching a little danse du ventre, raqs sharqi, or belly dancing as it were.
It is also possible that Hussein Obama was grateful for the "endorsement" from the Arabic speaking Lebanese/Colombian belly dancer.
After all, the entire world is supposed to be at some Hussein Obama defined We Are One stage in eight years or less if Hussein Obama and his handlers' plans are fully implemented.
Shakira has a similar whole world as one persona which George Soros found so appealing in Hussein Obama.
When Shakira's hips aren't shaking, Shakira keeps herself busy working for the United Nations, Unicef and the Clinton Global Initiative.
Shakira, also a friend of Warren Buffet and son, is reported to have donated her time and money to charitable organizations.
