Best Pro-Life Response to Obama – Respect the President, Sure, But don’t Give in “One Single Inch”

Exclusive Commentary by Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer
President, Human Life International

January 19, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Our hope is in the Lord and His goodness! Indeed, that hope is needed in a time when very dark clouds of abortion are gathering over the nation’s Capitol. It is evident to all who have eyes to see that those storm clouds will unleash a torrent of attacks upon life, marriage and family all over the world, and Human Life International (HLI) is bracing for the worst.

Barack Obama's dismal record and rhetoric on life issues truly indicates how he feels about these critical matters and what he plans to do once in office. Our nation just elected a man who, if it can be believed, is more extreme in his anti-life stance than such pro-abortion stalwarts as Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi. Until he was in the presidential campaign, he didn't even pretend to care about the opinions of those who believe every human life is sacred. We can expect more of that callous disregard for pro-life sentiments in areas of his administration which are more shielded from public opinion, such as foreign policy and the UN.

So what is the best response of the pro-life movement to the threat posed by an Obama administration?

First, all organizations that defend human life need to re-focus and recommit to their core missions. We at Human Life International will intensify our missionary efforts in other countries to thwart the Culture of Death through education, training, and activism while communicating with our supporters in the States the human cost of America's most destructive export - its anti-life agenda.

Second, we can be civil in discourse and strive to show respect for the office which President Obama holds, but we cannot give ONE SINGLE INCH on any life issue or allow the civility of our discourse to be interpreted as compromise. HLI will continue to be a strong advocate of a comprehensive and coherent position on the life issues which encompass not only abortion but contraception and sex education as well. The culture of death is a package deal; so should our response be to it.

Third, for far too long the pro-life movement has largely ignored the Hispanic populations. They contributed in large part to the election of Obama, and through deception or lack of awareness of the reality that is before them, they are rapidly compromising their core values as Christians. HLI is on the ground floor of a new initiative to bring Hispanics in this country together in a pro-life coalition, welcoming and serving this population which is inherently pro-life but which is being targeted by the death peddlers.

Finally, nothing is more important than prayer. It's not as if the Author of life is neutral on the questions of abortion, euthanasia, or embryo-destructive research. HLI will contribute to the overall force of prayer that is sweeping our nation right now in the form of 40 Days for Life and prayers for Obama’s conversion. We also invite all to join us in our St. Michael Prayer Campaign for the Conversion of Abortionists: http://www.hli.org/st_michael_prayer.html/

May He guide us in our efforts and strengthen us as we fight for life!

Pro-life efforts will be more important now than ever.

Personally, I think the best response is to save all your firepower for the SC appointments. That is where the decisions are going to be made.

Respect the Office;

I have no use whatsoever for the occupant as of tomorrow.
I wouldn’t spit on him if he were on fire.

If they pass FOCA all the Catholic hospitals will close. You want a healthcare crisis? We’ll give you one.

Sorry but it isn’t possible to respect an elected official who considers abortion to be a postive thing for society — and Obama does.

Christ was no respecter of persons — He “told it like it is,” no matter who He was addressing. That’s the example I will follow.

Not just the Catholic Hospitals, but any Hospital run by a religious group with a conscience.

Many doctors will also retire or seek other employment and close their doors for the last time, as they would have to be forced to recommend abortion services to any and all pregnant woment, married or not.

We have a pro-life physician, and we know he would rather close his practice than do that.

"Best Pro-Life Response to Obama – Respect the President"

Yeah, makes sense to me. Because, cripes, it's not only not the worst response but the best! Let's respect Obama. What a brilliant rallying cry. Get a real job.

Very unfortunately, I expect that the bishops will cave before Zero will. It's been 40 years since bishops stood up for the truth -- I don't expect them to start now...

Watching his speech in Philidelphia the other night, I just sat amazed as he spoke these words: “our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness come not from our laws, but from our maker”

Incredible statement from a man who doesn't believe in that right to life nor the maker that gives it. Dirt Bag.

Pray for the Lord to change the man’s black heart, and pray for him to be an utter failure at getting his liberal agenda adopted.

Why should I respect someone I hate and despise? Please don’t say for the office. He has sullied the office by his Constitutional disqualification and by running a hugely tainted election campaign orchestrated by George Soros. I certainly wish him no physical ill, but my hope is that he and his programs wind up on the ash heap of history — and quickly, too.

Our namby-pamby bishops might cave, but I assure you Benedict will not. There’ll be a crisis in the American Church over this, and it will come very soon.

Things continue to look bleak. There is no hope in the thought that those in office who are Rep will actually oppose "him" since all they can do at this moment is standby nodding their heads in agreement like a bunch of bobble-heads.

Praise God my hope is in the Lord! We CAN pray! HE does hear and answer! May the man to soon take office, making a mockery of the position, find his nights and days tormented until there is no way but for him to repent before the Lord, turn his life and this country around. I read a few of the series "LEFT BEHIND" and it is shocking how much this man resembles the man portrayed in the series! It is as if the majority of the population has come under a spell and cannot see the truth of who or what he is, blinded by mysterious mist or brain fog.

May God give forums like FR a covering, where we cannot be touched as we voice the truth. If he has so much power the DC police are infringing on the rights of freedom of speech, etc of the ProLifers for tomorrow, then what will become of any and all who voice opposition to this atrocity coming into office?! God preserve us all. God save our country.
