WASHINGTON – Treasury Secretary-designate Tim Geithner said Wednesday he was careless in failing to pay $34,000 in Social Security and Medicare taxes earlier this decade and apologized to Congress.

...

As to his failure to pay the payroll taxes from 2001 to 2004 while he worked for the International Monetary Fund, Geithner said: "These were careless mistakes. They were avoidable mistakes."

That was an eye-opener for me. I grew up in Illinois being taught Lincoln was one of the greatest presidents ever.

100% Banana Republic.

The only thing that puzzles me is why Obama would want to be President of a nation that would elect him(?)

The only good thing about Democrats being in power into the future is they won't have to bother cleaning the semen stains out of the White Housecarpets between administrations. (Special permission to Ann Coulter to re-use that line)

...he worked for the International Monetary Fund
That alone should throw him in jail.””

I still don’t understand how the IMF can hire their EMPLOYEES as 1099 contractors.
As I understand the payroll laws, if you are under the control of the employer, and are working for virtually only one employer, you MUST be shown as an employee.

I have worked on a 1099 basis for over 30 years, but I had as many as 19 bookkeeping clients at one time. I provided all the office supplies, even the calculator. I picked up and delivered alot of the work, only doing the very smallest of my clients at their place because of distance and short time required. I worked all kinds of hours of the day, but I controlled that.
I think there should be an investigation of the IMF and others who are pulling this kind of scam in the first place, because they not only are not paying the matching FICA and Medicare taxes = 7.65 %, but they are not paying any state or Federal UNEMPLOYMENT taxes or Workmen’s Comp premiums.

“EMPLOYERS” who design their payrols like this are getting a distinct advantage over the employer who does it by the book.

I suspect that will be the exact poster for the entire administration.....

What a sad thing for someone who should know better.
Acting like he’s about 11 years old.

I watched about 30 seconds earlier today and the Senator from Kansas said he had received calls/emails saying that they should institute a tax holiday for others who owe back taxes when he is confirmed. They showed Geithner’s reaction, it had such a smart a$$ smirk on his face, it was a “You wish you could get away with it like me” look.

Is that all it takes. Geez and I thought that all the liens, levy notices and threats of jail were real. Ok here goes...

To the IRS

I am sorry that I have refused to pay my taxes, cheated on my returns, made up deductions and lied my ass off.

Thanks you for you cooperation in resolving this issue.

Grassley said he recognizes that many in Congress view Geithner, who worked closely with the outgoing administration on Wall Street's meltdown as head of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, as "possibly the only man for the job of healing the recession before us and a very fractured economy."

Give us Geithner or give us death.

So rather than look for someone who´s actually competent, we´ll just have to hope he doesn´t make the same “careless mistakes” while in charge of billions and trillions.

As we´ve learned from Obama, you can´t criticize someone anymore until they´ve proved they´re incompetent by trying to do something they´re clearly unqualified for.

I heard Cavuto say yesterday that this clown tried to claim “summer camp” for his kids as a “business expense” on his returns...and he didn't even pay the past due taxes over the years until the day before he was nominated to be Secretary of the Treasury...
this POS is a DEADBEAT and has about as much business being the Secretary of the Treasury & head of the IRS as Osama bin Laden has being the head of Homeland Security!!!

The guy is an admitted white-collar criminal. He obviously has no business ethics (or shame, for that matter). I imagine the IRS will be used as a political weapon by the Obama administration at a level we have never seen before in the past.
