No BIBLE?

The Bible is Tradition, not Constitutional requirement.

I, and millions of others have sworn the same Oath that Biden did, and few of used, or could have used, a Bible in the procedure.

But we did *sign* a copy of the oath, which is another way of taking it. In our case the oral recitation was mere ceremony, the real oath had already been taken a few days before.

I find this account unsettling. He was fooling around playing pool, and paused briefly to re-take a solemn oath? Chief Justice Roberts was apparently giving the ceremony appropriate attention, but for BO it was a mere distraction? Something to get out of the way so he could focus on chalking his cue?

This is like those people who order coffee while yakking on their cell phones. They don't bother to acknowledge people around them and can't put the phone down long enough to acknowledge the person serving them and give them their full attention. Just as rude.

Second opinion - Justice Roberts had to do his duty of administering oath until every I is dotted and every T is crossed. Just an idea... I don’t think it’s over until we find out the results of every case on the docket or heading to the SCOTUS. Maybe I’m just an optimist.

He wasn't "playing pool", silly. ;-P

The reference is to the "press pool", the designated small group of media that report on events and hand the reports out to other media outlets.

Can’t fault you for wanting the Republic to still exist, but the reality is not pleasant to contemplate. A few of Obama’s advanced Alinskyesque operatives are making sweeping comments that nothing is changed, that those claiming to stand for the Constitution are in fact working to destory the domestic tranquility. Those making these specious assertions are a protected species at FR now, though the moderator has tried to argue otherewise while protecting the liars. Many of us who have opposed the obamanoids’ efforts to lie and dissemble and deceive readers of FreeRepublic.com will be finding other venues in which to dsicuss the state of the dying Republic. I’m sure the obamanoids will make up the contribution loss, putting their messiah’s money where their mouths are.

Ah, yes, the Presidential Oath of Office that takes place on the 21st day of January, just as the Constitution provides for ...

20th Amendment, Section 1:
The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

Article II, Sect 1, Clause 8:
Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Some academic and rhetorical (not entirely, though) questions:

So, if a Oath do-over was felt to be necessary, who was President from noon of the 20th day of January until 7:30 pm of the 21st day of January ?

Obama you say? Why re-administer the oath if so sure??

Biden you say? Maybe, but the 20th Amendment doesn't provide for such an occurrence really, now does it? (Similar to the "NBC is not defined in the Constitution" argument)? And if it does by Default, isn't Biden the President by Default STILL and Obama swore in under false pretenses?

Did Biden step down before Obama sworn in on the 21st day of January ?

Do we have TWO Presidents right now?

Or none at all?

One final thought from the AP version of the story (below): "The president said he did not have his Bible with him, but that the oath was binding anyway."

Is he still not officially sworn in as President because of TWO.. yes, TWO... screwed up Oaths of Office? Yes, I know it's not in the Constitution, but why use the Bible in the first place, or insert the words, "So help me God," at the end as has been done since President Washington?

Bad omen?

A type of negative foreboding and impending misfortune?

Undoubtedly intentional?
(at least a Koran wasn't used...)

Barry, you should have let:

In fact, you just opened up a:

So, Barry, did you help or hurt your position on eligibility by swearing in a second time, on the 21st of January?

Kinda makes me want to inspect that written Oath of Office you supposedly signed on the 20th day of January, too...

I could not stomach watching the farce on the 20th, but I heard that Cheney spent the day in a wheelchair. Supposedly he hurt his back while moving. But perhaps Cheney could not bring himself to stand up and give honor to Hussein, yet knew it would be tacky to skip the event and do something sensible, like go fishing in Australia, shop for new silk boxers, or take a pottery class.
