OBAMA RE-SWORN IN

At 735 pm, Roberts administred the oath of office again to obama in the map room. Robert gibbs said the wh counsel, greg craig, believes the oath was fine Tuesday, but one word was out of sequence so they did this out of a "an abundance of caution." "We decided it was so much fun..." Obama joked while sitting on a couch. Obama stood and walked over to make small talk with pool as roberts donned his black robe. "Are you ready to take the oath?" Roberts asked. "I am, and we're going to do it very slowly," obama replied. Oath took 25 seconds. After a flawless recitation, roberts smiled and said, "congratulations, again." Obama said, "thank you, sir." Smattering of applause. "All right." Obama said. "The bad news for the pool is there's 12 more balls."

There was much chiding from the journalists concerning their being left out of the loop on the second swearing in business. Here's a snippet of the presser from youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR4tBB_9iPc Gibbs tried to smooth things over by saying basically it was no big deal, but several reporters tried to pin him down, actually doing their jobs for a change!! Knock me over with a feather!

Apparently the journalists were angrier than even I thought! Here's something from Drudge this morning that is very interesting! :-)

Having a lot of trouble with this last link--internet censoring?!?

Obama flashes irritation in press room
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/17831.html

Loved this sentence from the last article: "President Obama made a surprise visit to the White House press corps Thursday night, but got agitated when he was faced with a substantive question."

Bwahahahahaha!! Schadenfreude!!

It is a very elitist crowd steeped in tradition and there will be repercussions. I saw a quote from Dee Dee Meyers about how they made some rookie mistakes with Clinton...and quickly learned their lesson.

We will see what Obama learns. He thinks he is the Chosen One so he may not care about the fallout.

You were interested in this bit of historical trivia, so I looked it up to make sure I remembered it correctly from an English history course. Knappen's Constitutional and Legal History of England, the chapter on Anglo-Saxon law, p 59, says

It was required that the statements be delivered in set form with verbal accuracy and without correction or stammering. He who failed in a syllable failed in everything, said a legal proverb. The point of this was that the religious-minded Anglo-Saxons put great faith in the supernatural, and they felt that if a man was about to swear falsely, God, by whom he swore, would cause him to falter in his speech.

A web source said that the oath had to be recited without mistakes, "without slip or trip." (That's the keyword to use for a web search on this.)

"Divine irony" is a nice way to summarize the whole event.

I was very interested (even more so because I’m a history buff!) so thanks so much for looking it up for me. And wow, that is really, really something. I’m saving that excerpt.

PRES—ENT, without ID, EXCELLENT.

DO you mind if I use it in a tag line also?

Maybe it was a planned excuse to administer the second Oath as Barry Soreto..... to satisfy the Supremes. Remember they all had a get together the week before the election.....

I made it my tagline to “be seen” and I’m pleased that you liked it enough to want to use it. Spread the word!
