Perhaps not, as the new president is forced to make Solomonic decisions that perforce offend one constituency or another, and if cracks begin to emerge in the mainstream media’s worshipful bias in his favor.
But it is also possible that this personality cult may endure and fructify, especially if the news media continue to suspend critical analysis of Obama’s long-held views and programs. Also, one can ask whether he will choose to use, to cultish ends, the new, well-funded organization, Organizing for America, which he has fashioned from his vast grass-roots political machinery, and which is described in the Los Angeles Times as “an unprecedented standing political army that will await orders from a president.”...

A Cult of Personality is only viable if there is no dissent AND if there is no “bad news.” The voices of those who say “The Emperor has no clothes” must be silenced. Every dictator remains in power this way. But as a corollary, the Fearless Leader can’t be allowed to look bad, and cannot be tied to bad news.
The msm already fawns over 0bama, and I expect they will continue to do so. However, the question is whether the msm will report bad news. If we start getting wonderful puff pieces about how our world is all better now, and there is no factual reporting of economic problems in the USA, then yes, we will have our full-blown cult. Hanging the bad news around Bush’s neck is risky; people might not accept it in 2011. It’s better to pretend there is no bad news.

Here's an idea for the next gift-giving occasion -- send them gift baskets — of packets of Kool Aid (a nice variety — think of a fruit basket).

I've not seen "Metropolis," but after doing a search and reading the brief description, it occurs to me that we may almost be there. Now that you've piqued my interest, I'll have to order a copy. I see that it has been "recreated" with its original music score.
