Well, looks like I’m just gonna have to swith to pot like ZerO. Seems like the costs are going to be competitive....
The real ridiculous thing about this increase, as WSJ pointed out, is that they’ve created an entitlement that will continue to grow, and have chosen to pay with it via taxes on an ever-decreasing pool of smokers.
Get ready to may a lot more for that stogie this Spring...
These guys pimp death. I and many conservatives support a tax increase on tobacco. However, I don't support spending the funds.
No conservative should support smoking.
Thank goodness for the indians.
Bush socialism. Damn him.
Time to quit smoking for real this time.
Smokers are gonna be hacked.
Thank God I quit. One of the hardest things I’ve done throwing that monkey off my back, but it certainly has freed up a fair amount of pocket money.
Slave to the leaf NO MORE! 11 months and counting.
This is but one tax that will bankrupt America.
The majority will blindly go along with it, anything to cripple the evil smoker, never realizing that once again, they have allowed the the camels nose to enter the tent before its ugly derriere.
All this will do is create a black market for untaxed cigarettes.
NC legisluts are finalizing their first bill of the year....increasing the taxes on tobacco and alcohol, most folk don’t even realize there’s a gas tax hike stuck in the bill too.
Grow your own and roll your own.
Started growing last year from seed.
I've learned enough now to wean myself off the internet tobacco suppiers should the prices go too much higher.
These people can suck an exhaust pipe!
Making moonshine is next on my agenda of "things" too do.
Another boon to organized crime. Can you say blackmarket? Sure, I knew you could.
This is called SOAK THE POOR.
For the cheeeeeeelrun, of course!
States are also increasing their taxes on tobacco
New federal taxes on Internet sales, Internet access and likely arms and ammunition are almost assured and watch for increases in federal excise taxes on liquor. To support our new socialist utopia a federal Value Added Tax (VAT)on all purchases is another possibility.
I smoke one or two cigars every weekend and look forward to that pleasure. The fact that I have to subsidize health insurance and medical for crack babies, 30 year old kids still at home, families with money to spend on $200 tennis shoes - video games - get fat on McDonnalds - drive BMW's - and are paid off by voting for thieves in congress to rob me of more of my hard earned money and I am suppose to be happy about it? Don't piss on me and tell me its raining!
If only there were a means of distributing dried, cured, cut, prepared vegetable matter on every street corner in America, then this tax could be easily avoided........
Indeed, the government is intent on turning smokers into felons, by any means necessary - and apparently from reading some folks on this thread, with the support of some supposed conservatives.
Avoidance of excessive taxation is your duty as an American. Refusing to pay for having your freedoms eliminated is your right.
The new administration is about to find out that if you turn law-abiding Americans into felons - whether it be through tax policy (like with tobacco) or interpretation of constitutional rights (like the right to bear arms) you won’t easily get them back on the side of hard-working, taxpaying Americans - because they will have lost respect for their government.
Then all you have left is intimidation.
I hate smoking, I find it a disgusting, vile habit but I’ll be damned if I want government involved in suppressing/taxing what is and has been a legal product like tobacco.
I stand with the poor saps that are addicted to tobacco in opposing this and every other tax on this and every other vice.
