Limbaugh Responds to Obama
National Review ^ | 1/24/09 | Byron York

Posted on 01/24/2009 1:06:04 PM PST by JRochelle

According to an account in the New York Post, President Barack Obama yesterday told Republican leaders, "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." With George W. Bush now off the stage, it may be that Obama and some of his fellow Democrats view Limbaugh, and not John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, or any other elected official, as the true leader of the Republican opposition. This morning I asked Rush for his thoughts on all this, and here is his response:

There are two things going on here. One prong of the Great Unifier's plan is to isolate elected Republicans from their voters and supporters by making the argument about me and not about his plan. He is hoping that these Republicans will also publicly denounce me and thus marginalize me. And who knows? Are ideological and philosophical ties enough to keep the GOP loyal to their voters? Meanwhile, the effort to foist all blame for this mess on the private sector continues unabated when most of the blame for this current debacle can be laid at the feet of the Congress and a couple of former presidents. And there is a strategic reason for this.

Secondly, here is a combo quote from the meeting:

"If we don't get this done we (the Democrats) could lose seats and I could lose re-election. But we can't let people like Rush Limbaugh stall this. That's how things don't get done in this town."

To make the argument about me instead of his plan makes sense from his perspective. Obama's plan would buy votes for the Democrat Party, in the same way FDR's New Deal established majority power for 50 years of Democrat rule, and it would also simultaneously seriously damage any hope of future tax cuts. It would allow a majority of American voters to guarantee no taxes for themselves going forward. It would burden the private sector and put the public sector in permanent and firm control of the economy. Put simply, I believe his stimulus is aimed at re-establishing "eternal" power for the Democrat Party rather than stimulating the economy because anyone with a brain knows this is NOT how you stimulate the economy. If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of this TRILLION dollar debacle.

Obama was angry that Merrill Lynch used $1.2 million of TARP money to remodel an executive suite. Excuse me, but didn't Merrill have to hire a decorator and contractor? Didn't they have to buy the new furnishings? What's the difference in that and Merrill loaning that money to a decorator, contractor and goods supplier to remodel Warren Buffet's office? Either way, stimulus in the private sector occurs. Are we really at the point where the bad PR of Merrill getting a redecorated office in the process is reason to smear them? How much money will the Obamas spend redecorating the White House residence? Whose money will be spent? I have no problem with the Obamas redoing the place. It is tradition. 600 private jets flown by rich Democrats flew into the Inauguration. That's fine but the auto execs using theirs is a crime? In both instances, the people on those jets arrived in Washington wanting something from Washington, not just good will.

If I can be made to serve as a distraction, then there is that much less time debating the merits of the trillion dollar debacle.

One more thing, Byron. Your publication and website have documented Obama's ties to the teachings of Saul Alinksy while he was community organizing in Chicago. Here is Rule 13 of Alinksy's Rules for Radicals:

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

“Limbaugh will serve Obammy’s purpose quite nicely since Rush is clueless to his own egomania.”

Good luck with that plan. Rush has already won a LIFETIME election. The magic negro is 50 IQ points, and 50 million votes, shy of even being able to compete in this battle of wits!

This episode makes Obama look like a small minded poser, and yes, as most have been saying, an empty suit.

You are confusing the sexual degenerate driven by his uncontrollable sexual deviancy, with a died int eh wool trained Marxist. Unless Rush gets a handle on his own egomania, Obama will play him like a fiddle keeping the nation divided with half blind to the Marxist agenda as Marxist.

The majority of people who voteed for the affirmative action poseur were not voting based upon known characteristics of Obama. The media made sure of that. The media isn't goign to educate the maalleable masses at this stage when their media goal of socialist paradise is in sight!

Obama will steer the public deabte int he direction of complicated explanations knowing Rush loves the complicated scene but has little experience in actually awakening in the dumbed down a sense of right and wrong ... the dumbed down masses just take or leave a guy like Rush based on how they feel and react to his seemingly over the top ego. That's how Obama will exploit Rush as a gag man to divert fromt he reality of our Republic's demise.

I like the sound of that. I really do.”

What Rush is missing is that it isn’t enough for the GOP to simply oppose 0bama’s stimulus. The GOP has to present a *popular* alternative.

He is not missing it on his program. He and others are presenting the conservative alternative. In so far as His program is effective he is also popularizing it. Sean, Levin , Heritage Foundation etc. are all doing the same. They do not however control the MSN propaganda organ.

It is really up to the GOP to both oppose Obama (and explain why) and set forth alternatives, and educate and sell them to make them popular. They are not doing it. Because of this Rush who is a talk show host with others has become the only effective opposition.

There is no leadership at present in the GOP on the national political stage which is the real problem. Governors like Palin and Jindal are first of all state or local officials with a state focus. We need someone with mettle nationally and there is not one at present.

Rush leads by GOP default. The GOP has helped to create this mess by pulling the rug from under GOP leaders like Delay, Allen and others and by the RINOS and their compromises.

I can’t wait for Rush’s show on Monday. Obama has just guaranteed that Limbaugh will have a massive ratings blowout. Obama has just elevated Limbaugh to a very high position; that of chief rival to him. Limbaugh cannot be happier at this development. This almost ensures that he will be all the more listened to, not just by conservatives, but by the media and Democrats as well. I think Obama may have stepped in it this time. Doesn’t he remember when Harry Reid tried to pull a similar stunt? It didn’t turn out too well for Harry Reid.

Rush is playing chess while Zero plays checkers. Unfortunately the majority of the public understands neither.

Rush is just saying what Merrill did is no worse than what Obama will do with the money.

Obama shows his naivete when he tries to take on Rush Limbaugh. Rush doesn't have to worry about remaining 'centerist' because he isn't running for office and needing to please people in order to raise money. Limbaugh is also smart and understands the liberal playbook, it's sources and it's strategies - and he knows how to counter them.

With his huge radio audience as well as in interviews, Rush can effectively communicate the abject failure of liberal policies and the inevitable attempts at obfuscation of those failures from the Obama administration, willingly aided by the leftmedia. If Obama thinks he can easily dismiss and marginalize Rush Limbaugh he is kidding himself - which, recognizing Obama's arrogance, is likely the case. One of many Big Mistakes Obama will be making in the days and weeks to come.

All the GOP has to do is offer a spirited, principled opposition to the stimulus, and then make the Democrats pass it on a party line vote. That way they alone will own it. That’s the key. Obama wants Republicans to sign on to this because he wants to have an insurance policy if and when the public realizes it was a disaster. Speak out against it, offer a principled alternative, and then vote against it. That is what Obama wants to avoid, and that’s all the GOP needs to do.

Clinton had a problem with Rush and spoke publicly about Rush being able to speak for three hours a day. Clinton claimed that all he got was a 30 second sound bite on the nightly news.

Obama should choose his fights with someone who doesn't have 15 hours per week to pick him apart.

When the MSM picks up his response (and they will have to because of Drudge’s highlight) they will leave out the Alinsky quote. Otherwise they will have to go into more detail than they want.

I completely agree that he is wrong about justifying Merrill’s spending of the money on redecorating. They are getting money out of our pockets when they should not have and at least they should be held accountable to put the money into the bare minimum of essential projects that will help keep them from going under and to keep the average guy caught up in their malfeasance from losing. That money could have better stimulated the economy by staying in my wallet so I could buy updates to my home using local contractors.

For many Americans, the ENTIRE POINT of the ‘08 election was to be part of the novelty of electing the first black President. That accomplished, the novelty is wearing off. Quick.

Isn't that the truth? Except for the truly insane, who literally worship Obama, most of the "drive by voters" who chose him based on his skin color are starting to think "Now what?"

There is no way he can live up to the hype.

Ask yourself how many Obama voters Rush will convert as he points to the truth of Obama’s Alinskyesque methods? Obama voters haven't a clue, they just react to their worshipped leader's lead.

And ask yourself how many American voters are willing to take the tough steps necessary to turn this nation around as the economy slides at a creeping pace now into depression?

Today’s American voters are not given to hardship, rather they are prone to wait things out ... but this time they wait out the current direction and they will arrive someplace We The People cannot have sovereignty to exercise.

How many Americans will want to be told that and want to contemplate that their once great Republic is no more? And Rush isn't going to feed the really hard pills or apply the really tough contrasts, he stand to lose too much prestige.

Rush can quote the Alinsky methodology yet fail to see how to counter being 'frozen' as target, especially with the fifth column media working the definign of Limabuagh in the venues where the Obama voters dwell, while Rush's audience may be loyal and educated, but it is no where near the size of the sheeple being fed the effluent of the mainstream media.

Now, if Rush were to buy a major newspaper chain or one of the networks, he might stand a chance in the fray.
