Why are inmates let out of their cells enough to stage a riot? And why are inmates allowed to be in gangs?

BMarked.

Any Florida Freepers that can add to this unfolding event?

Guess Obama will have to call an emergency meeting with his advisors and sign an executive order to close down this prison ASAP. /sarc

Its zero’s fault. I expect to see much more of this in the very near future. My contacts within the Texas prison system tell me the brothers fully expect zero to swing open the doors and let them walk. No more whitey keepin the brothers down.

gang bangers killing each other is Karma but they usually want hostages for power and negotiations, most prison rioting these days is between black and hispanic gangs trying to control vice activities. shootings only occur in the yard to control the fighting groups or keep inmates from killing others and staff.

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Authorities are reporting at least eight inmates have been hospitalized after an incident at a federal prison located northwest of Orlando. No staff members were injured.

Early reports indicated that there were mass casualties involving gun shot wounds at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex, which is approximately 50 miles northwest of Orlando and 35 miles south of Ocala.

"Everything is under control. The community is not in danger," said Tracy Billingsly, with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

Several emergency crews from Lake and Sumter counties arrived on scene shortly after 3 p.m.

A spokesperson with Orlando Regional Medical Center has confirmed that at least four people have been hospitalized and they are expecting three others to be brought to the complex. Numerous people were pulled out of the facility, five of which were loaded into separate ambulances. Patients arrived at ORMC, accompanied by federal agents.

FOX 35 has a crew on scene and is in the process of gathering more information. We will bring you more updates on MyFoxOrlando.com as they are confirmed. We will also have a report during FOX 35 News at 5 p.m.

Coleman Federal Correctional Complex is located just south of the central Florida town of Coleman, off of Highway 301. The complex consists of four facilities built to accommodate low to high security risk inmates.

MyFoxOrlando.com reported in October of 2007 on an incident at that same federal facility in which one inmate was stabbed and beaten to death. Osbaldo Farias, 36, and Gerardo Martinez, 29, were later charged with conspiracy to commit murder and first degree murder in the beating of fellow inmate Orlando Yazzie.

According to an investigation conducted by the Department of Justice, Farias and Yazzie were exercising in a recreation cage at the prison, when Farias stabbed Yazzie with a homemade knife approximately 13 times. Martinez then joined Farias in the attack and the two reportedly kicked and stomped Yazzie for approximately forty-five minutes. He later died from his injuries.

I would take the courtyard space, expand the size of cells and keep everyone in solitary for the duration of their stay in prison. We allow these inmates to organize and even to direct things that take place outside the prison.

If you deserve to go to prison, you don’t deserve rights other than simple clothes, a cot, a toilet, three squares, and a safe environment.

What is forgotten all too often, is that even if a guy has done something wrong, he is deserving of a safe environment inside the prison. That is not the case in any of our prisons today IMO. If I were to go in, I would want my own space and to be left alone to do my time.

I am not stating the following as fact.

Of the tv documentaries I have clicked upon it is reported that most prison inmates were gang related prior to there incarceration.

They have seemed to use there cleverness/intelligence (Aryan Nation was set as example) to run a money making organization in and out of the walls they live in by running drugs and have even come up with a sophisticated encrypted
language to mail out orders.

Add to the other gangs black/Latino ect and some corrupt prison guards it is a society that thrives on in prison learned ways.

To bad that these criminals did not put those talents to use for the good before committing crimes/losing there rigtht to freedom ect..

Sure could have been a huge saving in taxes we spend and they could be contributors in our society.

Some prison officials primary jobs are to decipher encrypted letters going in/out of the prison and look for drugs ect.

All paid for courtesy of the US citizens via taxes.

Yet we toss aside the severely indigent mentally/physically disabled whom have no family or the elderly into state run facilities that pay Burger King wages and expose those for no cause of there own to live in filth/abuse ect.

I have seen Missionaries in other countries who provide love/care/shelter to severely disabled babies/kids (EWTN Documentaries) then the Govt run ones here in our country.

Many Freepers and Sarah Palin who have disabled kids GET IT on how KEEPING there child and the gifts from the exp. of doing so are something that words cannot describe.

(sorry got way off topic)

I don’t know why we let prisoners in these places have the amount of access to each other and to the outside world that is permitted them. Of course gangs are going to keep up the bad work in prison, if these people are allowed to use the prison as a simple staging ground where the state provides them room and board, which seems to be the case.

I agree with Doughty One. They should be kept separated as much as possible, not Supermax style if they’re not that type of prisoner (I guess the isolation there can literally drive people crazy), but certainly enough to keep them safe from each other and to prevent them from plotting together and organizing either inside the prison or outside of it.

Good for you.

If you have to defend yourself/family due to an escapee coming onto your property then it would like being killing two birds with one stone.

(btw I am not big on violence but 110% believe in self defense and shrinking taxes)

What type of Prison is this?
Your typical long term storage of criminal or the worst of the worst life long violent criminals?

About 35 years ago my brother got picked up for unpaid parking tickets and thrown in to the Saint Petersberg Florida jail.
About an hour after booking a riot broke out. Inmates lit mattresses on fire and guards set off gas.
David said he took off his socks to breath through and got an inch off the floor and forever paid his parking tickets.

Did the news report under what circumstances that the guards were forced to shoot 9 of them?

Other than self defense.

Which is totally ok IMO.

Now if they just lined them up on a wall in a firing squad for marksman practice then the prisoners may have a bit to be jumpy about. /sarc

What do they expect Obama will do for them, doors wide open as well?

I could see Obama with his plan to rebuild the infrastructure using prisoners as cheap labor.

Well, after an in depth study presented to the courts of the United States, the ACLU should be closed down for the subversive organization that it is. It nearly exclusively takes on anti-US and anti-decency matters, in an effort to cause the breakdown of the government and society in the United States.

The statistics should bear this out. They can’t burn those places down fast enough for me.

Do a search for UNICOR. The feds are running rebuild and remanufacturing facilities at the prisons. I forget what the pay is, but inmates work in a factory often rebuilding military vehicles. Inside is beyond nasty.

The non-violet inmates live in a camp outside the prison and usually work in the warehouses.

If Slim (who has been a Freeper in good standing for ever around here IMO) is accurate then your setting up a defense perimeter is a wise plan. (not meaning to alarm you, maybe Slim can give some insight to the chances of any riot getting outside the walls)

I agree with most of your comments. I am not convinced that solitary causes mental problems though. Give them a 5” television screen that provides FoxNews, and a radio that pipes in a news channel, and they’ll be okay. Give them access to a lending library on wheels. If they can’t busy themselves, too bad. Avoid prison in the first place.

Update.
2:40 pm a stabbing started the brawl.

Out break started in the HIGH security area of the prison.

Things seem to be simmered down at this time.

Officials reporting no, repeat no threat to the public residents in the area.

Sound like it is under control at this time folks.

On a personal note it takes a certain type (I dont know how else to describe) of Man to be employed in an enviroment where the most violent, mentally disturbed criminals are housed.
