Very interesting. I was waiting for someone to get fairly deep below the surface in looking for the underlying conditions necessary for these types of incidents to occur.
In order for these types to prosper there would have to be much secrecy around police records and personnel profiles, as well as evidence.

I don’t know what the law stipulates as punishment (if it was an error) so I can’t say what punishment he should get. Motive certainly IS key here. It’s far different to kill someone in a fit of rage than it is to kill them thru a stupid mistake. But, like you, I wonder if we will ever know the real truth, and our biases will color how we interpret what we saw. BTW I guess there is no audio of the incident. That would be helpful, if it was clear and close.
I never said I wasn’t horrified. I can’t imagine anything that would make me NOT horrified to see someone killed like that. A terrible accident is also horrifying to watch.
Re jury duty, I have been called about 6 times, but never put on a jury. Something about my face they don’t like I suppose. I’m sure I’d be a pain in the rear anyway.
Lucky you! The judge told me I was ‘smart’ which is why it was Grand Jury duty and how did I expect to have a working legal system when I refused with others to do my civic duty. He was correct...it is my civic duty. I still don’t want to do it. As for the Bart case, I don’t know how it will play out. If I saw the video as a jury member, I would probably be inclined to vote for murder 2 or reckless manslaughter or whatever they call it.
I agree. I don’t know what I would do if I was on that jury. We will never know...like you said it could be an accident or it could be 2nd degree murder.
Lets hope that, by some miracle, we do find out the truth. If that cop murdered that kid, he should face the full penalty of law (which I kind of think should be tougher for those put in authority—with great authority comes great responsiblity—we should be able to trust our police to be there FOR us, not to kill us!)
On the other hand, if it was a stupid mistake, while I still think there should be some penalty, I also think actions should be taken to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
If it was an accident...definitely a lesser penalty. I hope the truth does come out.
