Foreign Policy Workers Ask U.S. To Back Benefits for Gay Partners
Washington comPost ^ | 1/27/2009 | Glenn Kessler

Posted on 01/27/2009 2:40:08 AM PST by markomalley

Nearly 2,200 government employees involved in foreign policy issues signed a letter delivered to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton yesterday calling on the government to give equal benefits to same-sex partners.

The Bush administration had eased some rules, opening up some training to same-sex partners, but had resisted efforts to treat homosexual partners the same as married couples. But Clinton, during her confirmation hearings, indicated a greater willingness to explore the issue.

"I think that we should take a hard look at the existing policy," Clinton said in response to a question from Sen. Russell Feingold (D-Wis.). "My understanding is other nations have moved to extend that partnership benefit."

The issue achieved prominence in 2007 when a respected ambassador, Michael Guest, resigned after 26 years in the Foreign Service to protest the rules and regulations that he argued gave same-sex partners fewer benefits than family pets. Guest said he was forced to choose "between obligations to my partner, who is my family, and service to my country," which he called "a shame for this institution and our country."

Guest was a member of Obama's State Department transition team.

In the letter, which was organized by the group Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies, the signatories wrote, "We believe that no colleague of ours is a second-class colleague, and no colleague's family is a second-class family." Many of the disparities could be resolved with an order from Clinton's office, the letter said, though some would require legislation.

Just bloody lovely. And what do you think the odds are that Madame Secretary will not approve this? After all, what would Huma say?

First the State Department, then what department next?

"My understanding is other nations have moved to extend that partnership benefit."

If someone else did it, it's good enough for us!

Once granted, these sorts of things will be impossible to roll back.

Well, since she isn’t getting anything from her husband...

DUH.. That is because homosexual partners and married couples are NOT the same. One is a perversion and the other is not. One follows the Word of God, one does not. One allows for the continuation of the species one leads to its extermination.
Which way will the Obama Administration go? Against God towards perversion and extinction, what else!

To me this is another example of just how wrong people are when they say there’s not a dimes worth of difference between Democrats and Republicans and as a result sat out the last election. Combine these individuals with a significant segment of the population whose intellectual capacity rivals some primates and you can guess the results. Elections have consequences. We’re just beginning to see the tip of the iceberg in regards to these consequences. I also agree with the prior posters that if this is implemented at State it will be impossible to stop at the other federal departments. This, I’m sure, is the intention.

As to her shrillness’ statement that “everybody’s doing it”, it reminds me of when I was a child and stated to my parents that I wanted to do something undesirable that my friends were doing. They asked me if Johnny decided to jump off a bridge would you join him? Well we as a nation we are collectively taking the plunge.

Guest said he was forced to choose “between obligations to my partner, who is my family and an abomination in God’s eyes, and service to other countries,” which he called “a shame for this institution and other countries. I feel I can no longer be the fifth column to this country that I have worked so long and hard to weaken and ultimately bring down.”

Go to whitehouse.gov and look at zero’s social policy “to do” list. Well over half of it has to do with promoting the homosexual agenda, granting homosexuals the rights and privileges of heterosexual couples, and granting homosexuals protected minority status.

Just goes to show how immature people have become in this country.

It's the adult version of when a kid wants something and the parent says no and the kid says "but Johnny's parents lets him have one! So why not me!!!"

There should be no equal benefits for gay partners. The point of benefits is to support the procreative family and provide incentive for their effective rearing that most times takes one partner partially or completely out of the income market.

The military! They will, of course, want gay “marriage” too.

Ultimate Goal: Set the stage for hate crimes so that no one can teach that the gay lifestyle is wrong.

How ya gonna prove it? What if you are gay and just have a roommate and you claim the roommate is your “partner”? What if you get a new roommate?

I agree. If PRIVATE corporations want to extend full benefits for homosexual partners, they certainly have that right; however, this is the taxpayer’s money we are talking about here.
