While you are probably correct about the leftists, there may be another element which I will throw out there for what it is worth.

Rush and the other conservative talk radio commentators are targeted by the left under their plan to reinstate the "fairness doctrine" or its "localism" variation. They have said this all through the campaign.

Rush therefore has nothing to lose by what he is doing, if they are going to shut him and others down they are going to do it.

But the leftists want to do it under the guise of "fairness." That is they want to slide this in with most of the people who do not pay attention not really being aware of what they are doing. That is how they operate. The phony stimulus bill is another example. It is why Obama waited until the weekend to sign the executive order using tax payer dollars abroad to kill babies. They cannot be up front and honest as to what they are really doing.

Rush, by making himself a target the way he is, is doing something. If they attempt to take him or others down, in this context, it will be overt and obvious that it is pure censorship, not "fairness" falsely so called. The best defense is a good offense. It would also strengthen any court challenges he needed to bring.

It seems to me that Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Glen Beck and others are doing the same type of thing. The result is it might just give a backbone to the conservatives in congress. (The Republicans are standing up to the stimulus farce to some extent as they did before.) It increases their listening audience and revenue, and is the only effective opposition.

I could second guess and wonder if targeting Rush was part of a plan to manipulate the public perception of republicans. Let’s face it, Rush is not well liked outisde of his listeners, he isn’t exactly Oprah. LOL

No, he’s not Oprah, thank God, he is far more than she, and I beg to differ on his likability.

You are wrong about Boehner. He has never taken any pork barrel money in all his years in Congress, but, up until now, he was like a voice crying in the wilderness. I just heard Carl Cameron on Special Report saying that the extent to which the House Republicans are going to oppose this bill is more than might be expected and Boehner deserves a lot of credit for that.

To address the true subject of this thread, Obama is showing both his ignorance and his arrogance by taking on the most articulate spokesman in the Conservative movement - one who will not be swayed by Obama's dulcet tones and is not afraid to oppose "he who is too big to fail".

Imagine if the Republican party singled out for destruction a private citizen who spoke their mind politically.

The LameStream Media would rush to their defense. Pun intended.

Here is my response sent to the DCCC:

Thank you Rush for speaking the truth, saying what the American people have no voice to say and doing it boldly, without fear!

The outrageous hypocrites of the DCCC and the old media hoped that President Bush failed for eight years and actively lied to and deceived the American people every day with that agenda.

Thank you Rush for being there for us! We hope you succeed for America!

I went to the DCCC address, but didn’t fill out the form. I couldn’t bring myself to give even a throwaway email address to the RAT party.

This is not about Rush. People miss the point, it’s shifting the focus away from what they want to pas in Congress, it’s also designed to make Rush a Pariah and an excuse for passing ridiculous hate legislation as the left has done everywhere else. This is about getting total dominating control of the media and insuring a dumb public that will voe for them no matter what.

If you think St. Oprah is well liked outside her listeners, you have another thing coming. The two or three of us that don’t watch her (just kidding) have nothing but amusement mixed with scorn for the brainless spoiled harpy.

""I am greatly puzzled. Why would the Democrats petition against me if I am doing such terrible damage to the GOP? "

Rush Derangement Syndrome.

The liberal notion that people vote for conservatives and think in conservative ways solely because of Rush Limbaugh would not explain how Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale.

There is a simpler explanation. Liberals can't stand being ridiculed and made fun of. They listen to Rush more than conservatives and Republicans do. Deep down they know that much of what he says has some truth to it. Rush lands some pretty good shots on liberals. The imitations of Clinton and Paul Shanklin's songs remind them just how seedy their liberal program has been and how creey the liberal leaders are.

Liberals want to believe that no one could possibly be conservative for rational reasons. So they perpetuate the fantasy that Rush Limbaugh causes conservatism. It's a bogeyman theory. This relieves them of the more complicated process of examining how crazy and nutty liberals are and why people really do not like liberals or liberalism.

The liberals who actually call in to argue with or heckle Rush are good examples of Rush Derangement Syndrome. It's easier for them to focus on Rush and their anger about his show than to remember how creepy the Clintons were, how odd Gore and Kerry were, and that liberal policies drive the country deeper into debt.

In the 1970s it was even easier for them because they had their own Alinskian TV show in which Archie Bunker played the role of the unattractive conservative scapegoat. Deep down they enjoy having Limbaugh as a scapegoat to blame and one who absolves them from any deeper rational thoughts or self-examination. If they ever succeeded in having Limbaugh driven off the air they would have to invent a new one. Liberals always need an Elmer Gantry, Huey Long, Jesse Helms, Tom DeLay, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson or Limbaugh to point to as an unattractive example of what they don't like. It is part of their Manichean worldview.

They need the stereotype of the conservative philistine or armchair bigot with weight problems to make them feel better about themselves as they attempt to bankrupt the country and depopulate the planet,

sometimes with a lecherous hillbilly at the helm who is an even more unattractive stereotype for whom they put on their liberal beer goggles. They have no problem indulging the liberal philistines, nutjobs, or lunatic.

And that's why Limbaugh stays in business. It's a symbiotic relationship.

Indeed! Would this qualify as trying to 'fix the target', polarize the audience? This 'petition' is aimed as much at the liberal lost as it is at Rush; fixing Rush and his daily rhetoric as the voice of extremism against the chosen one, feeds the liberal hate quotient, to worship their false messiah and visceralize hate toward Rush and anyone 'in his audience'. This is a calculated step right out of Rules For Radicals.
