Jeez, the other day I reached into my cabinet for a Luna bar and the only two I had were ones containing peanuts. I came thisclose to eating one. I decided to check the Luna website, and sure enough, both of them were on the recall list.

Whew, close call!

It’s a long list, some name brands included, others less common brands. Lots of recalls due to salmonella contamination. Wide variety of foods affected. Worth a look.

I have gone through about three jars of “Smart Balance Peanut Butter” since the beginning of the year without any problems.

I bought 12 Zone Perfect Peanut Butter bars (have been eating them for years!). When I heard about this, I called the number listed on the box (yeah, I bought the whole box of 12).The lady I spoke to said that they would send me a check for what I paid at the groc. store, BUT THAT I SHOULD DESTROY each and every one of the bars! She said NOT to take them back to the store! That was over a week ago, I imagine it will take time for them to send me the check. That’s OK ... it was a close call for me, too!

Someone in my family received an automated call from Costco telling them to throw away some bars they bought many months ago. Costco also called another number and sent a letter. I'm pretty impressed by how thorough they were.

I guess there are some useful aspects to all that data they keep about our shopping habits.

“I don’t click on Google.”

Ditto that! I get a few strange looks when I tell people to Yahoo it instead of Google it, but eff them. (I don’t mean that in a bad way.)

Wow...if fresh chicken / hog manure was spread on the crop land before the nuts were planted in spring, it could explain the contamination from a particular grower. Still though, the nuts should thoroughly washed before and after shelling before they are processed (boiling / roasting). Then again, with corporate greed in place that could have reduced process line cleaning or rinse water treatment after so many tons, it could very well explain how the nuts went bad. There’s always salmonella in soil and veggie/root products..it’s the level of concentrations that’s the key. If fields are treated with anything other than well composted manure or chem ferts, the concentrations are extremely high. Also, Georgia’s record drought keeps the soil bacteria from quickly breaking down the manure into useful compounds for the plants.

Food irradiation would solve most of these problems. We're nuts for not doing it.

Food comes out essentially sterile with no residual radiation.

I just got a letter from Sam’s Club stating that the baklava tray I bought BEFORE CHRISTMAS was being recalled due to possible risk of salmonella.

Like it wasn’t already LONG GONE, hehehe.

Wish that old coot would bow out and go and go do some bass fishin’, cross dress cattle, stay drunk, play bingo, play shuffleboard......whatever. Gyp-me-card-uhs is just like BearManPig GoreBull. JC is one of the worst foreign and domestic policy Presidents ever (CRA in specific) and ol Peanut himself knows it....like AG. So, they are depressed and obsessed in still being in the media trying to correct image and years of snafu based upon self image and complete ignorance....pretty simple.

Food irradiation would solve most of these problems. We're nuts for not doing it.

The anti-nuke wackos have regular folks scared to death of anything having to do with radiation. Most folks don't understand enough about science to know when they're being snowed. Just take a look at the numbers of folks who think we humans can have any effect on the climate, to understand that.

Considering that most everything listed has peanuts or peanut butter in them, I’m thinking it’s tied to the big recall last week of foods containing peanut butter. Most of the recall last week had to do with institutional supplies. The makers of the snacks mentioned in this recall must have gotten the peanuts from the bad batch.
