We lost the elections, including Congress and the Presidency. The “stimulus” bill is a reality. Whether we like it or not, some form of this porkulus bill is going to pass. Do you expect governors with huge deficits to refuse the money after it’s passed? Palin has called for a hiring freeze and 7% spending CUT in the budget for fiscal 2010. She’s doing her part. Her state relies on the price of oil for a large portion of revenues. If I were governor of AK, I would lobby for spending that is necessary for my state but argue against all the junk in the bill. There is a way to do that. This is the worst downturn in at least 25 years so naturally states will be hurting. Let’s face reality here.
I don't think that's what conservatives are really debating about, we know who's got the trump cards here but it would sure be nice if all GOPers voted against it, at least they (Libtards) would "own it" completely.
It's a "message thing", nothing more, maybe a morale thing, it would help mine for sure.
Congratulations, you have just described exactly why government spending by definition can't work to stimulate anything except a politicians' quest for power. They will allocate capital for that purpose.
"There are four ways in which you can spend money. You can spend your own money on yourself. When you do that, why then you really watch out what youre doing, and you try to get the most for your money. Then you can spend your own money on somebody else. For example, I buy a birthday present for someone. Well, then Im not so careful about the content of the present, but Im very careful about the cost. Then, I can spend somebody elses money on myself. And if I spend somebody elses money on myself, then Im sure going to have a good lunch! Finally, I can spend somebody elses money on somebody else. And if I spend somebody elses money on somebody else, Im not concerned about how much it is, and Im not concerned about what I get. And thats government. And thats close to 40% of our national income."
