An off-duty customs agent shopping at a west Houston liquor store shot and killed a man who attempted to rob the store Friday night, police said.
The man, who has not yet been identified by police, approached the front counter of Specs Town and Country, at 12901 Queensbury around 7:30 p.m., pulled out a gun and ordered customers to the floor.
The agent pulled out his weapon and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, Houston police spokesman Gabriel Ortiz said.
The suspect ignored that order and pointed his weapon at the agent, he continued. It was at that point that the agent, obviously fearing for his life, shot the suspect.
Seconds after that shooting, a second man fired at the agent from the liquor stores front door and fled, Ortiz said. The gunman remains a fugitive.
None of the shoppers or employees was injured, Ortiz said.
Not your normal night at the liquor store, Ortiz said.
After the shooting, at least a dozen federal agents and an equal number of Houston police officers descended on the store, which is along an access road near the intersection of the Katy Freeway and the Sam Houston Tollway.
The border patrol agent was wearing his uniform T-shirt and pants but also had on a civilian windbreaker at the time of the shooting, according to the agency. He was authorized, but not required, to carry a weapon when off duty.

[ sniff ] I love a happy ending.
In Minnesota, the off-duty Agent would be behind bars for not running away while searching for a cell phone.
I’m not kidding...
A good criminal!
(sorta like a good terrorist - assuming room temp. and ready to start pushing up daisies.)
A.A.C.
I haven't heard that expression in years.
I'm still trying to find out where it originated from.

Two things are coming to mind. Confronting an armed attacker poses the challenge of when to shoot. The case here is the second unseen assailant. The agent was lucky. The second problem is not shooting an assailant in the back while they are retreating. The retreat could be intended to gain cover to regain tactical advantage. Of course the gun grabbers and criminal victim hustlers would claim murder for shooting an attacker who was retreating possible for cover. By hesitating to avoid a murder charge, one greatly increases their chances of losing the encounter.
Excellent!
I guess those of us for like reading such 'good stories' like on this thread are dated in their thinking too.
Shame thugs have to die for their twisted thinking and behavior, but that's life....ask Saddam.
I would be all in on that bet.....a serious hand of Texas Hold’em played in that liquor store.
Assuming you're NOT kidding, since you said you weren't -- The FED is protected by FEDERAL law in this case. Locals wouldn't dare touch him here. They tried the same thing in the Lon Horiuchi case after Ruby Ridge and the head Nazi (Reno) had the case moved to federal court (federal agent) and dismissed. Now if it were simply a ccw enabled citizen it's another matter and that's the really SAD thing.
Not around here. They're not called "Stop & Robs" for nothing. Some even have quite a fearsome rep in da 'Hood. "Saturday night knife & gun club -- shoot you and dance on your body" type of thing....
Damn straight he was lucky. That's why my IDPA club mandates that when completing a course of fire the competitor must always threat scan for more attackers before declaring "completed" to the grader. Yes it's going to cost you some time and points but it may result in a procedural if you DON'T, and that's worse. The lesson here being that on the street, a "procedural" means you might be dead. That really is worse.

Why? Never stopped the feds before.
Why the heck is this the case? A professional SHEEPDOG ought to be required to carry his teeth 24/7 or he risks being forced into the role of sheep and that is simply unacceptable.
would you really consider customs agents to be sheepdogs?
Not a problem under Texas law. Besides, the shooter was a Fed.
Excellent read
Once when President Lyndon Johnson was visiting Houston, he was met by a mad crowd which was shouting “Free Lee Otis - Free Lee Otis”.
Johnson thought they were asking for free beans.
This is not a joke. It really happened.
