The crumbling economy has taken its toll one of the largest department store chains, with Macy's announcing today that it will cut 7,000 jobs, about 4 percent of its workforce.

The company's cost-cutting measures include restructuring its retail divisions and reducing planned expenses. Macy's Inc. operates more than 840 department stores -- under Macy's and Bloomingdale's -- across the nation, with corporate offices located in New York and Cincinnati.

depends on the store. very upscale stores have maintained high quality staff. mid to lower end stores, like macy’s, have let things slip a bit.

From my FR homepage:

I have updated my FMCDH (From My Cold Dead Hands) sign-off with the addition of (BITS).....Blood In The Streets, which I foresee coming soon, due to the enormous increase of the Marxist progressive movement being shoved down the throat of this failing REPUBLIC through the Judicial tyranny of fiat law, the passing of unconstitutional laws by the Legislative and Executive branches of our government and the enormous tax burden placed upon the average American to support unconstitutional programs put forth by Marxist ideology. I do not advocate revolution. I only think of what I foresee. FMCDH(BITS)

The apathy began when dept. stores began to cut back on floor employees. At first it was the associates policing the racks and floors, then came the centralized checkout and no overtime, mostly part time( cut the benefits and you cut incentives for a higher class of worker to apply). Notice how Walmart is still high with customer service
